We are offering a fantastic and rare opportunity to join our forward-thinking Health & Safety Team to cover maternity leave for a period of circa 14 months.

The successful candidate will provide a proactive and professional leadership role in ensuring there is consistency of Health and Safety policy and procedures across the NDM units. You will provide expert advice through briefings, presentations and written reports on any relevant matters and you will play a key part in developing policies and strategic plans. Your duties will be to develop a wider network within and outside NDM, developing a community of practice in line with the H&S Strategic plan, sharing best practice and training junior staff with seminars, workshops and brainstorming sessions on communal themes, in collaboration with the Safety/Divisional Office.

You will have a background in health and safety management in a biological/biomedical research environment, as well as experience of working at Biosafety Containment Level 2 & 3. A proactive approach will be critical to your success in the role, with an empathetic approach to the needs to researchers without compromising safety.

This is a very interactive role and the range of staff we interact with is also very broad. So, strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to deal with people at all levels are a must. If your strengths include the ability to work methodically with a high degree of attention to detail, our role will definitely appeal to you. We’re the University’s biggest department managing world-leading clinical research, and great time management and prioritisation skills are something we would positively welcome.

The Nuffield Department of Medicine is friendly, welcoming and keen to engage with the many challenges and opportunities that arise in our world-leading, internationally recognised department. This role offers the opportunity to thrive in a diverse role in a supported environment.
