Job Title: Casual Practical Instructors in Animal Management (all sites)

Location: All College Campuses

Contract Type: Casual

Hours per week: Variable

Salary: £13.09 per hour plus annual leave

Over the last 50 years, Capel Manor College has helped thousands of school leavers and adults achieve their dream of working with animals, plants and the environment. As London’s environmental college, the College plays a vital role in the green agenda for the capital, equipping the next generation of land-based sector workers with the skills and knowledge needed to preserve and protect London’s wildlife, national parks and green spaces. Capel Manor College is an exciting, innovative and stimulating work environment and we are interested in hearing from applicants who are committed to excellence and improving the lives of others through education, training and skills development.

The College is now looking for a number of enthusiastic individuals to join its bank of Casual Practical Instructors to be based at the College’s Campuses across London.

Our Practical Instructors are responsible for supporting teaching staff across our Animal Management courses by providing practical demonstration and technical instruction to students on Animal Management courses. Practical Instructors supervise small groups of students to develop their practical skills through demonstrating the appropriate skills, methods and techniques. This might include demonstrating tasks such as feeding, handling and exercising animals. They will ensure that students can demonstrate the skills and behaviours required for the successful completion of their qualification and possess the knowledge that underpins the practical instruction. They will also ensure that the health and safety of the students and the animals is maintained whilst undertaking practical sessions.

The ideal candidates will hold at least a Level 3 qualification in Animal Management, and will have experience caring for animals. While experience working in education is not essential, applicants should have some experience training and instructing others to work with animals.

This is an opportunity to join a vibrant, creative, and supportive team, with a shared passion and vision in making a positive impact to the lives of students of all ages and backgrounds. Many of our Practical Instructors move into Lecturing roles, so if you have relevant experience working with animals and an enthusiasm for passing your skills and knowledge onto others, we would like to hear from you.

Not interested in a casual role? We have full-time, permanent positions at the College’s Enfield, Mottingham and Gunnersbury Park Campuses. Please see our full-time, permanent Practical Instructor advert for further details and to apply.

What’s in it for you?

We offer the opportunity to help develop your skills and knowledge in a friendly team environment, plus a range of benefits including generous annual leave, a defined benefit pension scheme (Teacher’s Pension Scheme for Lecturing roles and Local Government Pension Scheme for Support roles), employee assistance programme and full access to Capel Gardens.

Equality, diversity and inclusion

Capel Manor College is committed to creating and promoting an equal, diverse and inclusive workforce that enables those working at the College to achieve their full potential. We are committed to achieving a truly representative workforce and therefore welcome applications from all sections of the community.

Safeguarding

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of our students and expect everybody working for the College to share this commitment. We actively seek DBS clearance checks for applications of employment as part of our safeguarding procedures.

The shortlisting for this vacancy will take place on a monthly basis.
