Job Summary The Groundskeeper II/Assistant Equipment Technician will work on small and mid-compact equipment such as but not limited to: 2 and 4 cycle powered walk behind mowers, riding mowers, trimmers, blowers, stick edgers, skid tractors, snow blowers, plows, and salt units. This position is also responsible for routine maintenance and repairs on fleet vehicles and equipment.
Essential Functions:

  • Inspects, diagnoses, and repairs various pieces of equipment including diesel, electric, and gasoline handheld equipment, sweepers, mowers, tractors, leaders, and other mechanical equipment used in grounds and landscape work.
  • Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment, check oil and fluid levels, lubricate, change oil, replace lights and batteries, belts, hoses, inspect, change, and repair tires and perform other maintenance as necessary. Welding and fabrication required in some instances.
  • Maintains inventory records and databases on repairs made, parts ordered, and parts inventory as well as maintaining a clean and orderly work area.
  • Operation and general maintenance of College vehicles and other machines.
  • Assist with grounds, landscape, and winter maintenance as equipment maintenance and repair workload allows.

Hourly rate: $20.00 – $22.00/per hour (This position is eligible for overtime and shift differentials).

Education/Skills Requirements Required:

  • High School or GED equivalent.
  • Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Must have good communication skills; be able to get along with co-workers, supervisors and building occupants; and be able to work.
  • Adherence to safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of proper equipment usage to ensure safety.
  • Willingness to adjust work schedules based on the needs of the grounds.

Preferred :

  • Vocational education in small and mid-compact engine repair.
Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents Required:

  • 2-3 years of experience in groundskeeping and/or landscaping, mowing, edging, pruning, and maintaining lawns.
  • Minimum of one year experience with 2 cycle, 4 cycle, and diesel powered equipment.
  • Prior experience working on small to mid-compact engine repairs (i.e., oil change, replacement of mower blade).
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to meet the requirements of the College’s Motor Vehicle Use Policy.
  • This position requires a criminal background check and pre-placement physical.
  • Experience in mowing, edging, pruning, and maintaining lawns.
  • Ability to operate and maintain landscaping equipment.
Standard Work Days and Hours
  • Normal working hours are Monday – Friday 7am to 3:30pm.
  • Evening and weekend shifts are required during special events and heavy seasonal workloads.
  • This position is essential and will be required to work during emergencies and/or holidays.
  • The anticipated start date the for candidate selected will be on or after January 8, 2024.
