Post Summary
The purpose of the Deputy Secretary to the College is to support the Secretary to the College/Director of Governance to uphold the highest standards of corporate governance, compliance, risk management, integrity and accountability throughout the University.
Reporting to the Secretary to the College/Director of Governance, the Deputy Secretary will have a key role in the corporate governance of the College and has a deep understanding of corporate governance and public sector values; and their applicability to a University. The role holder must have the ability to comply proactively with statutory and regulatory requirements by ensuring effective, transparent and accountable governance in line with best practice.
They will have a strong track record in management and leadership of a team and the provision of services, gained in a public or private sector organisation. Preference will be given to candidates with relevant experience gained in higher education and/or comparable business operations. In addition, they will have budget management experience and experience of efficient reporting and providing considered advice.
Post status: Permanent
Hours of Post: 35 hours per week
Salary:
This appointment will be made on the Senior Administrative 3 Salary Scale (€92,913 – €119,982 per annum) at a point in line with current Government pay policy.

As Deputy Secretary you will:
• Interact with College Offices/Officers and functions in the implementation of College procedures
• Manage the co-ordination of activities required under the University legislation, particularly in relation to review processes and reporting arrangements
• Ensure that statutory requirements in relation to membership of Board are complied with
• People Manager for the office with responsibility for managing day-to-day operations
• Providing advice and guidance to the Secretary on matters relating to issues within the remit of the Secretary’s Office
To be successful in this role you will need:
• A University degree. In addition, a professional (e.g. company secretarial) or legal, administration or governance qualification, or relevant post-graduate qualification (such as MBA, MBS) would be an advantage.
• Deep experience with legal and regulatory frameworks
• Excellent operational management experience
• Proven track record of general management experience
• Familiarity with the work of the University and/or other public bodies
