Job description
The Plumber/Steamfitter is responsible for performing construction, repair, installation and maintenance work on all piping systems and associated mechanical equipment, including testing, commissioning, decommissioning and troubleshooting in support of Research Decommissioning and Operations at CNL Chalk River Sites.
What you will be doing!
- Perform preventive maintenance and corrective work, commissioning on piping systems and associated equipment in order to maintain the site infrastructure and productive facilities and the R & D program.
- Construct, fabricate and install piping systems and associated equipment including the removal of piping, equipment and hazards in a controlled manner.
- Perform decommissioning on piping systems and associated equipment including the removal of piping, equipment and hazards in a controlled manner.
- Read and interpret drawings, work packages and reference materials to ensure that the scope of a given job is fully understood and that all aspects of the job have been considered and comply with CNL regulations and all applicable codes.
- Interpret and follow maintenance records and route sheets and sign the appropriate sign off sections to comply without quality control manuals.
- Maintain good housekeeping practices of all work areas, tools and equipment, adhering to provincial, federal and CNL regulations in order to provide a safe and efficient working environment. Attend monthly safety meetings and immediately report any safety concerns and/or infractions. Apply CNL’s Event Free Tools procedure throughout the execution of assigned work and model this behaviour and knowledge to others.
- Assist in the training, coaching and mentoring of trainees in safe workshop practices and procedures including work planning, assisting and development of skills by demonstrating techniques, describing suitable methods. Monitor, assess and correct work performance, discuss problems and improvements and report progress
What we are looking for:
Education
- Secondary school graduation diploma and qualification as a Plumber/Steamfitter typically acquired through the completion of the required 9000-hour apprenticeship or equivalent.
Abilities and Skills
- Knowledge of all applicable codes and standards including Canadian Standards Act B51.1, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, National Fire Protection Association in order to provide a safe and healthy work environment.
- Demonstrated use and endorsement of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)
- Written and verbal communication skills to be able to work in multi-trade groups and communicate with CNL staff across a broad range of disciplines in order to ensure proper co-ordination and prioritization of work.
- Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings in order to determine cut sizes and piping runs with the ability to cross-reference between the technical drawings and parts list with a thorough understanding of the scope of the job in question.
- Ability to operate standard shop/hand and portable power tools, fittings/calibration equipment and standard machine tools in order to perform duties in a controlled and safe manner.
Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security”.
