Purpose
To assist in overseeing and leading other building attendant staff members. Receive and respond to work-related instructions from supervisor.
Responsibilities
-
Provide leadership and substitute for supervisor when the supervisor is unavailable. Inspect student rooms for fire safety, custodial deficiencies, perform fire and life safety inspections, conduct clean assessments of student rooms, provide staff training and mentor new staff, issue supplies, maintain inventory and equipment, make staff assignments, monitor staff work areas, and assume supervisor duties when supervisor is absent. Drive a university vehicle when needed.

Perform daily assigned work in public, community, private, and/or connecting bathrooms. Clean and disinfect toilets, urinals, and sinks. Clean and disinfect showers. Sweep and mop floors including disinfecting. Polish faucets and shower controls. High dusting of stalls and exhaust fans and grills. Inspect for mold on the ceiling and shower stalls. Report and clean graffiti.

Perform floor maintenance on hard surface and carpets as assigned. Clean and disinfect floor surfaces. Sweep and mop floors on a daily basis including disinfecting. Strip, wax, and buff vinyl, carpet, and tile floors in public areas and student rooms. Spot clean carpets when needed and perform carpet extraction as assigned. Vacuum and clean carpets daily.

Clean hallways, lounges, stairwells and landings, trash collection areas, and laundry rooms daily. Dust and clean all walls, furniture, and appliances as needed. Move and rearrange furniture daily to be set up as scheduled. Perform set ups for events.

Inspect the building for maintenance needs and submit written work requests. Inspect all furniture for cleanliness, torn fabric, or damaged and broken components. Remove or replace any damage furniture.

Follow and know written policies and procedures. Provide feedback to supervisor on staff concerns and performance. Assist supervisor to ensure that staff follow all policies and procedures.

Promote professional development of self and all staff to improve knowledge and work skills through ongoing training and workshops, including monthly safety training.

Other functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications
-
At least 2 years of experience in custodial maintenance work.
-
Knowledge or use of methods, materials, and equipment used in cleaning university buildings.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
-
More than 2 years of experience in custodial maintenance work.

Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
-
Ability to read and write work materials and follow written instructions.
Driving Required
This job requires a class “C” operator’s driver’s license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver’s license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).
Salary Range
$41,600+ depending on qualifications

Work Shift

Monday – Friday, 7:30AM – 4:00PM. Workdays, area, and hours may vary based on department needs.
