We are seeking several Social Service Specialists 1 to join our team in Lincoln County. If you are interested in becoming either a child protective service worker or a permanency worker (based on agency need), we’d be thrilled to receive your application!
Our branch is in Newport and serves coastal and inland communities from Lincoln City in the north to Waldport in the south. The county has contiguous borders with two federally recognized Tribes- Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians and Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde. What you need to qualify
A bachelor’s degree in human services or a field related to human services.
OR
A bachelor’s degree unrelated to human services, and either:
1) One year of human services-related experience, OR
2) Completion of coursework equivalent to certification consistent with .
OR
An associate degree and either:
1) Two years of human services-related experience, OR
2) One year of human services-related experience and related training, coursework or certification consistent with .
A valid driver license and acceptable driving record are necessary for this position.

Experience engaging and working with Tribes, Urban Indian communities, community partners and organizations.
Ability to use trauma-informed practices that are sensitive to the child and family’s language, race and culture.
Working knowledge and ability to implement the principles and guidelines of the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) and the Oregon Indian Child Welfare Act (ORICWA).
Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to write in plain language with minimal spelling and grammar issues.
Experience giving verbal presentations that were well-received and understandable to the audience.
Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and manage your time well.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize self-care in order to maintain good mental health.
Demonstrated ability to come up with innovative solutions to problems.
Demonstrated ability to be an active listener and manage one’s own emotions, as well as the emotions of others.

What you will be doing:
(You may be doing some or all the following, depending on the position assigned.)
Monitoring the safety and wellbeing of children by maintaining ongoing contact, assessing developmental progress, and evaluating treatment needs.
Preparing children for changes and transitions, such as returns home or adoptions.
Facilitating and observing visits between children, parents, and other family members.
Providing feedback and counseling to parents and other family members.
Referring clients to service providers and community resources and assisting them in using these resources.
Play a critical role in helping families achieve their goals while cohesively ensuring the physical safety and emotional well-being of children in Tribal Nations and Alaskan Native Villages.
Engage with children who are eligible for enrollment or are enrolled in a federally recognized Tribe, their families, resource parents and caregivers in a multitude of ways to achieve the safety, and permanency, maintaining and enhancing their cultural identity and sovereignty to ensure optimal outcomes for them and their caregivers. All engagement will be conducted through a trauma-informed and antiracist lens.
Developing safety, treatment, and service plans.
Consult and collaborate with Tribal Nations and/or Alaska Native Villages to ensure any and all services provided are respectful of and adhere to the family’s specific Tribal identity.
Keeping lines of communication open with foster parents through in-person visits and the sharing of information (such as about court hearings, treatment needs, and case plan info).
Reviewing documents, completing paperwork, and maintaining case files.
Attending court hearings, making presentations/recommendations, and preparing concise yet comprehensive court reports.
Evaluating child abuse and neglect complaints.
Determining types of intervention needed, including the need for juvenile court involvement.
Preparing juvenile court cases, making recommendations, and providing testimony.
Providing support services such as counseling and crisis intervention.
Identifying family members as potential placement resources.
Working conditions
Employee’s work may be conducted in offices, participant’s homes, and other community sites. Travel is required.
These positions require the incumbent to work a professional work week where the hours of work fluctuate on a daily and weekly basis. Normal working hours are between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Occasional overtime may be required, including on nights and weekends.
You may interact with a wide range of people including some who have experienced trauma, exhibit challenges in controlling their anger, or other unexpected emotions impacted by drug use, cognitive impairments, or other factors.
You may walk into stressful situations that require quick decision-making skills to ensure the safety of those being serviced and your own physical safety. This may also be trauma inducing.
