We are seeking an engaged and motivated candidate to manage our refractory maintenance and service contract in a copper smelting plant. The Refractory service provider is responsible for safely and efficiently maintaining the condition of our refractory assets throughout the smelter. This role is instrumental in managing the contract and leading the teams, ensuring a safe workplace and continuously improving operating practices.
This role represents a fantastic opportunity to leverage your refractory experience and leadership skills to support safe and productive copper smelting operations.
Reporting to the Hot Metals Operations Manager and working in a collaborative environment, you will:
- Lead the focus on sustaining and improving a strong safety culture throughout the operation
- Routinely perform quality Health, Safety and Environment interactions to ensure that workplace hazards are controlled and that all personnel are following established systems, procedures, and standards
- Apply our Contractor Management System effectively to ensure safe and efficient services
- Monitor the condition of our refractory assets to ensure their ability to achieve the production plan
- Identify and prioritize opportunities and establish action plans to realize performance improvements
What you’ll bring
To be successfully considered for this role, you will;
- Extensive experience in the application and maintenance of refractory systems in containing molten materials
- Leadership experience – managing teams to achieve safe and productive outcomes
- Be driven to create a safe, respectful, inclusive, and diverse workplace
- Experienced in contractor management
- Have excellent stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to lead through influence
- Have highly developed problem-solving abilities, suitable for a complex process environment

Where you’ll be working
Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States. We produce copper, precious metals including gold and silver, molybdenum and sulfuric acid. Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich ore body of the Bingham Canyon Mine since 1903, and is one of the top producing mines in the world, comprising approximately 11 percent of U.S. annual copper production.
