Position description
CESVI is an Italian, secular and independent humanitarian organisation, founded in 1985 in Bergamo. CESVI operates in 4 continents with emergency, reconstruction and development projects in favour of local populations.
CESVI’s interventions in favour of populations all over the world cover in continuity, emergency response activities, rehabilitation up to sustainable development. Through its experience in the territories, CESVI is committed to influence the change it promotes, at national, European and international level.
In this context, the Networking and Advocacy Area develops and builds profitable and long-lasting relationships with Italian, European and international stakeholders and institutional donors. It develops and maintains the presidium of Italian, European and international networks, networks and coalitions of strategic interest for CESVI in order to promote its positioning and work in the countries of intervention; it collects evidence and good practices in order to strengthen interventions in the humanitarian and development fields; it develops advocacy actions on priority themes and geographical areas, in line with the five-year CESVI Global Strategy (2023-2027).
JOB DESCRIPTION
The collaboration will start in February 2024.
The collaboration may take place remotely.
Willingness to travel in Italy and abroad and to visit CESVI’s office in Milan or Bergamo on a regular basis, in agreement with the Area Manager, is required.
The selected candidate will be placed in the Networking and Advocacy Area, under the supervision of the Area Manager and in close coordination with the resources operating in HQ and abroad.
The Networking and Advocacy Officer plays a fundamental role in the development and implementation of CESVI’s positioning and actions of influence, networking and advocacy.
The main objective of the collaboration will be to support and develop specific actions in line with CESVI’s Global Strategy and the action plan of the Networking and Advocacy Area.
In the scenario described above, the Networking and Advocacy Officer will be in charge of
– support the monitoring work of Italian, European and international networks and coalitions of which CESVI is a member; among these, Alliance2015 with the coordination of the Advocacy and Communication Implementation Group;
– support advocacy actions with high-level Italian (e.g. MAECI-AICS), European (e.g. DG ECHO, DG INTPA, EEAS), international (e.g. FAO, WFP, OCHA, UNHCR) and institutional donors and support the definition and development of institutional relations activities
– develop and update specific messages and identify targets at the national/European/international level to support the Area;
– produce and update advocacy materials, briefing papers, web content and annual reports;
– develop and update information and analysis of relevant international processes on identified priority issues with a focus on humanitarian aid and humanitarian-development-peace nexus approaches;
– monitor international debates on CESVI’s themes and areas of interest and identify opportunities to strengthen institutional relations (through reports and research);
– analysing reference documentation and assisting the work of the presidium in agenda-setting, development and analysis of documents and statements;
– conduct research and analysis on CESVI’s priority themes and approaches and support the development of reports/paper in order to contribute to the organisation’s positioning on strategic issues and strengthen institutional relations with a particular focus on humanitarian aid and sectors such as protection, production chains and income generation, response to climate impacts, food security and nutrition;
– prepare thematic content and positioning for external meetings, tables, working groups, events;
– assist the Area manager in the internal coordination and communication and information mechanisms among the thematic referents of networks, coalitions and networks of the different CESVI Units;
– assist the Area manager and relations with the different Units of CESVI in the organisation and implementation of policy forums, report presentation events and other advocacy and outreach activities;
– support the integrated work of the Area with the International Programmes Unit and liaise with other areas and Units within CESVI to implement specific initiatives
– develop and monitor contact lists and other databases necessary for the implementation of networking and advocacy actions.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
– Master’s degree in international relations, international cooperation, human rights or related;
– at least 3 years of advocacy experience in related fields;
– strong analytical and research skills;
– excellent written and verbal communication skills, including knowledge of the technical-specialist language related to the function and area of intervention (international cooperation, humanitarian aid and similar);
– knowledge of global development and humanitarian system policies and international political dynamics;
– excellent knowledge of the English language (C1-C2 level), both written and spoken;
– sensitivity and interest in the issues of international cooperation and humanitarian aid and sharing CESVI’s values;
– predisposition to interpersonal relations;
– ability to meet deadlines, stick to an agreed work plan and manage priorities;
– accuracy and flexibility;
– organisational and problem-solving skills;
– good knowledge of the Office package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and familiarity in using the main online communication platforms (Microsoft Teams, Zoom).
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
– training in humanitarian advocacy;
– previous experience abroad in international organisations or networks.
