Student Partners

Reporting to: Maria Orjuela-Laverde

Location: Mostly remote with occasional in-person activities on campus

Hiring unit: Teaching and Learning Services

Hourly rate: Undergraduate student- $18/h; Master’s student – $20/h; PhD student – $23/h + 4% vacation indemnity

Hours: Up to 5 hours per week

Duration: ASAP to May 15, 2024

Position Context

Teaching and Learning Services is seeking currently registered McGill students to become part-time Student Partners to assist with the Students as Partners program in the Faculty of Arts. The pilot will support partnerships of instructors and art students that will work together to enhance teaching and learning experiences in the Faculty of Arts. Reporting directly to the Students as Partners Program (SaP) leader, your duties are to attend weekly meetings with the SaP team, meetings with your instructor partner, support the partnership project you and your instructor partner will be working on, and proactively provide feedback on the project to program evaluators.

Winter 2024 activities will be a combination of in-person and online activities.  

Primary Responsibilities

  • Attend weekly 30-minute team meetings;
  • Attend the Winter 2024 orientation session (if a new hire);
  • Attend weekly meetings with instructor;
  • Support partnership project and conduct tasks agreed upon with instructor partner;
  • Provide feedback to Project Lead during SaP program evaluation;
  • Document process of partnership from your own perspective (journaling)

Job Requirements/Minimum Education/ Experience

  • To be eligible for this job, you must have access to a computer and high-speed internet, webcam and microphone;
  • Must be able to present yourself on campus for in-person activities;
  • Must be registered as an undergraduate or graduate student at McGill for the Winter 2024 semester;
  • Must be able to work in Canada and have a valid SIN number.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

Students applying should indicate knowledge/experience in any of the following areas:

  • Organization and time management skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to interact with instructors
  • Familiarity with web conferencing technology (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Zoom)
