Our head office is based in central Manchester and is the home to many of our central functions. Due to continued business growth, we are delighted to be recruiting for a Payroll Officer to join our brilliant Finance team.

Reporting to the Payroll Manager, this role involves carrying out the end-to-end payroll processes to ensure accurate payment and reporting for 800+ Monthly paid employees.

You will offer end-to-end payroll experience, strong Excel skills, as well as being adept at financial systems and processes. As a proficient and experienced finance professional who isn’t afraid of a challenge, you’ll enjoy our changing environment as we continue to grow at an impressive pace!

What will I be doing?

No two days are the same at BES Group. As a Payroll Officer reporting to the Payroll Manager, you’ll be encouraged to call upon your previous experience to review current processes and suggest improvements to support the growth of the central payroll function. The scope of this role will grow over time as you develop your skills and experience but some of your key responsibilities include:

  • Paying all staff correctly, on a monthly basis
  • Input of permanent and temporary payroll data
  • Working closely with HR to ensure all payroll changes are processed
  • Producing BACS reports for net pay
  • Ensuring that correct payments are made, and appropriate information is provided to the company pension schemes and other third parties
  • Submission of FPS / EPS to HMRC
  • Producing payroll reconciliation reports
  • Monthly variance reporting to Senior Executives as part of payroll sign off process
  • Employee payroll queries
  • Preparation and submission of annual P11D forms
  • Ad hoc projects / queries to support payroll & wider finance team

What experience do I need?

You will be a payroll professional with end-to-end payroll experience, gained from working within a payroll department in a similar role. We are open to different levels of experience and backgrounds but to work for us you must have the right attitude, aptitude and appetite for what we do; Keeping Britain Safe. You’ll also:

  • Offer strong end-to-end payroll experience (essential)
  • Experience working with payroll software and systems (iTrent system experience is desirable but not essential)
  • Ability and experience of dealing effectively with payroll related queries and data requests from all levels of employees and Management.
  • Experience of reviewing payroll processes and suggesting improvements
  • Good working knowledge of pensions
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Expert attention to detail and enthusiasm to challenge and improve processes
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong internal relationships with finance and non-finance colleagues
  • Strong organisation skills with the ability to prioritise workloads to meet specific deadlines
  • Self-motivated and proactive with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience of integrating new payrolls (desirable)

Ideally, you will also:

  • Hold a CIPP qualification (desirable but not essential)
