About the Role
This opportunity is tailor-made for a driven post-doctoral researcher passionate about delving into the intricacies of molecular machines. Joining Assoc. Prof Rouiller’s esteemed team means immersing yourself in cutting-edge research using cryo-EM techniques to unlock the secrets of HIV Env glycoprotein and its interactions with antibodies and small molecules. As a pivotal member, you’ll steer two crucial projects, exploring vulnerable HIV Env conformations and dissecting interactions with various antibodies—a role that not only contributes to scientific advancement but also paves the way for groundbreaking therapeutic possibilities in AIDS treatment.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Independently design and carry out experiments focused on completion of research project aims, including sample preparation and cryo-EM data collection.
- Analyse experimental data independently and in a timely manner, including 3DEM map generation, analysis if structural heterogeneity when present and model building.
- Present and communicate experimental plans and their execution effectively to chief investigators and collaborators.
- Seek funding opportunities such as fellowships, early career grants and travel bursaries and assist their supervisor with large grant applications.
Who We Are Looking For
You have a knack for organisation, driving project success. Your initiative shines in independent work. Your meticulous record-keeping defines reliability.
You will also have:
- A PhD or equivalent qualifications/experience in the study of membrane proteins using biochemistry, molecular biology and/or structural biology.
- Experience in mammalian expression systems, membrane protein purification and reconstitution in membrane mimetic systems.
- Strong background in structural biology and biochemistry.
- Track record of scientific writing, data preparation and figure preparation for publications and grant applications.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University.
