ICMC Europe works to support newly arrived refugees and the communities that receive them by promoting partnerships with European and national institutions, civil society organizations, and community and faith-based groups. We seek to open hearts and doors to welcome refugees and migrants.
ICMC Europe works at the European level to expand durable solutions and protection of refugees and promoting rights-based migration, integration and development programmes. Based in Brussels, ICMC Europe contributes to the European migration and asylum agenda, via advocacy, civil society networking and engagement with the European institutions.
Since 2012, ICMC Europe has been coordinating the Share Network, whose mission is to foster the creation of safe pathways for refugees and improve the welcoming and inclusion of newcomers to Europe. The network provides a multi-stakeholder platform for mutual exchange and learning. It connects local initiatives, shares best practices, and raises the voice of communities to inspire action and policy change.
The Function
ICMC Europe is looking for an independent, driven, enthusiastic professional for the position of Communications and Events Officer. The position will be part of the Secretariat and will be based in Brussels. The role of the Communications and Events Officer involves planning, producing, publishing and updating content for the ICMC Europe websites, projects & active social media channels; collaborating in communications outreach activities & campaigns; and supporting the organisation of workshops, webinars and other events.
Key responsibilities
Develop and implement the overall communications strategy and activities of ICMC Europe:
- Manage the website and social medial accounts of ICMC Europe and the Share Network;
- Collaborate with ICMC HQ and ICMC Europe’s programmes’ staff on the development of communication, dissemination and outreach strategy;
- Plan and deliver communications content and outputs;
- Draft, edit, disseminate ICMC Europe’s activities and outcomes through newsletters, visuals, videos, social media, press releases, website, and communications campaigns for a diverse and targeted audiences including EU policy-makers;
- Monitor, analyse, and provide advice to constantly improve ICMC Europe’s communications impact.
Support ICMC Europe’s event and project implementation:
- Provide support with outreach and promotion of events;
- Handle and/or support project team in the organisation of events;
- Support project team in drafting reports and communication-related outputs for projects;
- Support the team on ad-hoc initiatives, projects and tasks when needed.
Profile
- At least 3 years of working experience in communications;
- Educational background in communications, journalism, European affairs, or a related field;
- Experience in refugees, migration and integration within EU environment is an asset;
- Hands-on experience in media and communications;
- Strong drafting, editing, proofreading, layout and designing skills. Demonstrated skills in writing, communication & outreach;
- Professional experience with different communication tools (web, social media, newsletter tools) and other communication-relevant software;
- Experience with developing visuals, videos, logos and other graphic design materials using appropriate software is an asset;
- Skills in stakeholder engagement – the ability to translate technical content into impactful messages tailored to different audiences;
- Experience in events planning and coordination is an asset;
- Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English. Knowledge of other EU languages is an asset;
- Strong time-management, organisational and planning skills;
- Enthusiastic, flexible, eager to learn and share knowledge and a strong team player with good interpersonal skills within a multi-cultural environment.
