Contract: Permanent, 1FTE Salary: TMS / UPS, £30,000 to £46,525p.a. pro rata

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf to join our team as the Teacher in Charge looking after the Special Support Centre for Deaf Children. Working with our deaf pupils within our thriving mainstream school you will ensure that children’s needs are met within an inclusive environment and the key principles for inclusion are embraced. The role of the Teacher of the Deaf in Charge of the SSC is to facilitate access and inclusion to ensure our deaf children reach their full potential. As the Teacher in Charge you will work closely with the Headteacher, Leadership Team and colleagues in the strategic development and implementation of the SSC policy.

We welcome applications for this post from candidates who:
– Are outstanding teachers, ideally hold the Mandatory Teacher of the Deaf qualification.
– Have high aspirations for all deaf pupils.
– Have experience of working with deaf children.
– Have excellent signing skills, to at least to BSL level 2.
– Have an excellent understanding of deafness and its impact on a child’s learning.
– Can lead our excellent team of Special Support Assistants in the SSC.
– Will work closely with the Specialist Speech and Language Therapy service, to be able to support and implement individual SaLT programmes.
– Have a good understanding of Audiology.
– Will promote the successful inclusion and learning opportunities for deaf children.
– Can provide outreach support to deaf children in local mainstream schools.
