Residence Hall Director

A Residence Hall Director coordinates building and community aspects of a residence hall or complex, utilizing an Inclusive Excellence framework in which staff strives towards excellence from an inclusion mindset in academic and social engagements with students; initiates, plans and organizes community development program in residence hall or complex through the Residential Curriculum; assists in hiring and training student staff; supervises and evaluates staff; supervises residence hall office and building security operations; advises residents on social, academic, and behavioral concerns; includes evening, weekend, and on-call duty; advances the Residential Curriculum through key departmental values centered on student learning, wellness, inclusion and the creation of vibrant communities.
35%- Assists with selection and placement of student staff; assesses staff skills and training needs; participates in pre- and in-service training; supervises and evaluates student staff to ensure completion of community and student development expectations; makes appropriate recommendations regarding performance; collaborates with staff overseeing residence hall desk and building security operations.
25%- Advises and consults with residents regarding social, educational, and wellness concerns and initiates appropriate referrals; confronts and discusses behavioral problems and identifies necessary behavioral changes; manages conduct processes; coordinates crisis interventions in hall or complex.
15%- Initiates plans for comprehensive community development program in hall or complex utilizing the Residential Curriculum; ensures advancement of departmental and Student Life goals and strategic initiatives, advises student groups and organizations and provides support to elected hall student leaders; assesses resident student needs; advises and consults with student leaders regarding training needs; Ensures high quality performance of learning communities and academic initiatives within the hall or complex.
10%- Prepares correspondence and reports and maintains appropriate hall records as required or requested; attends and participates in area or system meetings; assists in development of area and system procedures and policy recommendations.
10%- Coordinates building staff in implementing procedures to assure safety of residents and security of buildings including fire safety and emergency evacuation procedures; assists residence hall administrative and support offices with information about student needs, preferences and interests.
5%- Assists with special projects as assigned by Student Life and Housing and Residence Education

Additional Information:
Required: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. 3 years of relevant experience required.
Desired: Master’s degree in college student personnel, higher education, counseling or related fields (obtained by the start of the position); full-time or graduate residence life experience.
This is a required live on position. There are multiple openings. There are options for immediate start dates or July 2024 start dates.
