This is an exciting time for a technology-enhanced learning Officer to join the established and successful London Interdisciplinary Social Sciences Doctoral Training Partnership (LISS DTP), an Economic & Social Sciences Research Council (ESRC) funded multi-institutional collaboration, led by King’s College London in partnership with Queen Mary University of London and Imperial College London.   

​We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised individual to join our team, with a passion for supporting and coordinating a high-quality digital learning portfolio of PhD training and a commitment to supporting students to receive a great doctoral experience.  

The Digital Training Officer will support the LISS DTP Assistant Manager (Training) in the smooth running of all digital training and e-learning activity in the DTP. The role’s key functions are detailed below.

  • Creating and enhancing online and blended learning opportunities for LISS funded and affiliated students. 
  • Working with and supporting course convenors to develop new digital learning materials. 
  • Working with and supporting the LISS DTP Assistant Manager (Training) and the LISS DTP Deputy Director (Training) to develop digital training infrastructure. 
  • Working with the LISS DTP Assistant Manager (Training) to support the delivery of live, interactive digital workshops. 
  • Providing the secretarial support (minutes taking and drafting any notes) and supporting the LISS DTP Assistant Manager (Training) to coordinate LISS DTP Training Committee, chaired by LISS DTP Deputy Director (Training).  
  • Working with the LISS DTP Assistant Manager (Training) to collect staff and student feedback on our digital training provision. 

​The Digital Training Officer will work closely together with senior academics and professional services staff, including the LISS DTP Director, the LISS DTP Deputy Directors, and LISS Manager in King’s and partner institutions. The role holder will also work closely, learn and share best practice with colleagues in similar roles in the Centre for Doctoral Studies and in KCL’s Centre for Technology Enhanced Learning and equivalent Centres in each Partner HEI, offering support on learning technologies, staff training sessions, and external resources.

This post will be offered on an on a fixed term contract for 36 months.

This is a part-time post – 40% full time equivalent.

Key responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain new and existing technology-enhanced learning tools and resources for LISS funded and affiliate students on KEATS (KCL Moodle based virtual learning environment), ensuring all content is presented accurately, consistently, and in compliance with agreed templates, specifications and standards for that project; 
  • Supporting the academic course leads, to ensure the quality assurance of online courses by undertaking the editorial and technical review and testing of courses prior to sign-off and delivery; 
  • Support academic training leads to develop and deliver a portfolio of blended learning programmes by setting up online meetings and recording and uploading video content; 
  • Monitor, analyse and report on engagement with online learning tools and implement enhancements as necessary to improve this;
  • Support the Training Committee to identify, commission, manage and evaluate externally curated on-demand training opportunities for LISS students as appropriate; 
  • Proactively engage with the LISS student community to understand training needs and effective routes to deliver this training;
  • Advise LISS funded and affiliate students and supervisors on sources of digital training and support the annual Development Needs Analysis process;
  • Learn and share best practice, working collaboratively with the Centre for Doctoral Studies and Centre for Technology Enhanced Learning.

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria

  • Knowledge of technology-enhanced learning platforms, such as Moodle, Kaltura.  
  • Demonstrable interest and experience in administering digital content, such as videos, websites, or online training modules. 
  • Experience of using video conferencing software in the delivery of teaching and learning resources (e.g., Zoom/Teams meeting).
  • Demonstrable motivation to support the delivery of training and development opportunities and resources for doctoral students.  
  • A collaborative, supportive, team-focused approach.  
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise professionally and confidently with subject matter experts and other internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Excellent attention to detail.  
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Strong MS Office skills, including SharePoint, Outlook, Word, Excel.
  • Desirable criteria

  • Experience of working in higher education understanding postgraduate research degree lifecycle, PGR experience and training and development needs.
  • A good understanding of online pedagogy and experience of applying instructional design principles to the editorial development of educational content. 
  • Experience of EDI and accessibility.
  • Interest and skills in digital/visual design.
  • Experience of using content management systems to create and edit websites.
