Implemented by the IRC, the Cultural Orientation Resource Exchange (CORE) (https://coresourceexchange.org/), a technical assistance program, connects and supports refugee resettlement staff globally to deliver effective Cultural Orientation (https://coresourceexchange.org/about-cultural-orientation/) which helps newcomers achieve self-sufficiency in the United States.

Settle In, a digital platform available in multiple languages, is a service run by CORE that directly engages newcomers through its website (www.SettleInUS.org), mobile app, and social media platforms. Serving as a key touchpoint, Settle In disseminates vital and accurate information tied to resettlement services.

The Digital Content Officer will play a pivotal role in supporting the strategic development of CORE’s refugee-facing digital platforms. Reporting to the Senior Digital Strategy Officer, the incumbent will be responsible for developing, managing, and implementing digital content across Settle In platforms (web, mobile, social media, live events). The role involves supervising Settle In staff, aligning digital content with project growth, and collaborating with various stakeholders to advance CORE’s programmatic objectives for newcomers resettling to the United States.

Major Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the Senior Digital Strategy Officer and Senior Digital Communications Officer, oversee and manage the strategic direction, including growth and development, of Settle In platforms, specifically focusing on newcomer-facing content development;
  • Develop, manage, and implement digital content strategies for Settle In properties, incorporating best practices and user feedback;
  • Conduct research to stay informed on industry trends and implement updates accordingly;
  • Supervise Settle In staff and provide support for content creation and publication across social media, website, and mobile app;
  • Collaborate with CORE’s Virtual Events Manager and other staff to develop and deliver virtual live events for newcomers;
  • Implement and support strategies that incorporate client voice into Settle In platform development, including Refugee Stories content, user testing, and surveys;
  • Support partnership opportunities that promote engagement activities with refugee and other immigrant communities;
  • Ensure maximum visibility and integration of all refugee-facing resources;
  • Contribute to scopes of work and support project implementation for enhancement of Settle In digital properties, as necessary;
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently with various stakeholders and staff on Settle In digital platforms and resources;
  • Support monitoring and evaluation activities for Settle In digital properties;
  • Represent CORE at meetings, internal and external workshops and conferences, and other events, as needed;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree required. Graduate degree in communications, digital media, library science, social science, international development or related field preferred;
  • Minimum of 3-5 years work experience in digital media or communications (website, mobile, integrated campaigns) in nonprofit environment preferred;
  • Experience managing, coaching, and mentoring diverse teams;
  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms, especially Facebook, and cultural use of these platforms, including proven ability to navigate the subtlety of language across multiple languages and an ability to apply communication guidelines in multiple formats;
  • Experience managing communications projects specifically targeting refugee or other immigrant audiences, with attention to the importance of accurate information and the ability to exercise strong judgement and attention to detail in ensuring content accuracy;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills: the ability to communicate highly technical concepts and functions to non-technical audiences;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and partners, facilitate trainings and/or workshops, and present at professional meetings;
  • Strong computer proficiency and well-acquainted with basic software tools. Can navigate autonomously in Windows, Android, Microsoft Suite, and Google Docs;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program and experience managing and creating multilingual content preferred;
  • Solid organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple tasks, set priorities, effectively manage time, and meet deadlines;
  • Strong commitment to social service or humanitarian assistance programs and willingness to adhere to IRC’s code of conduct;

Working Environment:

  • This role may work remotely from anywhere within the US, with potential hybrid / in-person option depending on location and candidate preference. If remote, applicants must have a home or alternate workspace they can effectively complete their work from during regularly scheduled hours. Most of the CORE team is remote, with an office in Silver Spring, Maryland.
