Chief of the Quantum Measurement Division

The Physical Measurement Laboratory of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) anticipates the need for a Division Chief for its Quantum Measurement Division (QMD) (http://www.nist.gov/pml/div684/). The QMD has 60 scientific and engineering staff and over 70 students, postdoctoral researchers, and contractors. Its scientific and engineering staff consist primarily of physicists and electrical and mechanical engineers with doctoral degrees. The division has activities ranging from the study of quantum phenomena to the delivery of calibration services for mass, force, acoustics, vibration, and electrical quantities. The principal duties for the division are on the NIST Gaithersburg campus but there are collateral duties at the University of Maryland, College Park through the Joint Quantum Institute (http://jqi.umd.edu), a research partnership between NIST and the University.

Depending on the identified candidates professional background they will be hired as a Supervisory Physicist, ZP-1310, Grade V; Supervisory Mechanical Engineer, ZP-0830, Grade V; Supervisory Electrical Engineer, ZP-0850, Grade V; or a related scientific or technical position. The applicant’s Curriculum Vitae or Resume must provide positive evidence that they have performed highly creative or outstanding research that has led to or could lead to major advances in a physical science or engineering discipline. Applicants must be able to show at least one year of experience equivalent to the ZP-IV (GS-14 equivalent) level.
