In 2022, Richard Edelman set the firm’s ambition on climate change: To be the agency of choice for organizations committed to climate action. In the past year, the Climate & Sustainability team has fulfilled our foundational commitments including creating and rolling out mandatory climate training for all staff with Columbia University’s Climate School, assembling a world-class Independent Council of Climate Experts to help shape the firm’s climate actions, and establishing governance to assess new projects in line with our climate principles.
Now is the time to take this work to the next level. We are recruiting an Executive Knowledge Manager of Climate and Sustainability to advance our progress as a firm by equipping our people across our global network with the requisite fluency in climate-related issues that is critical to our client counsel and achieving our agency-of-choice ambition. The role is focused on connecting the dots on climate-related issues across the firm, creating forums for knowledge and information-sharing, and tracking progress initiatives, fostering effective knowledge management practices, and helping to drive marketing efforts to promote our sustainability-focused initiatives.
This individual will have some subject-matter expertise in a key sustainability-related areas, such as circular economy, climate and industry transitions, and above all, a passion for the issues and a keen desire to contribute to the firm’s actions.
This individual will report to the MD on Climate & Sustainability (London) and work closely with Global Climate Chair. (West Coast)
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Creation and execution of an internal climate and sustainability-related asset hub:
- Establish an internal, centralized knowledge base of resources across regions and sectors. Assets include colleague bios tagged to specific expertise, case studies, Trusted Transition IP related to climate and sustainability, NGO relationship database, reporting and marketing (with IT, Marketing, Impact) to empower teams as practitioners.
- Serve as the hub’s primary owner and knowledge manager. Act as the central point of contact within the Edelman network, addressing inquiries and requests related to sustainability, and providing guidance and information as needed.
- Constantly develop and calibrate the hub in line with the needs of our colleagues and the clients they serve.
- In partnership with marketing, IT, Impact, Citizenship.
Creation and management of a forum for internal learning and engagement:
- Establish an internal platform (e.g. Teams or Workplace) focused on climate and nature-related news and issues, open to all staff to learn, engage, ask questions and for climate and sustainability teams to share updates on a more regular basis.
- As part of this forum, create ongoing programming to build community and share updates. Includes creating regular “Climate Conversations” series with external experts our teams to engage teams around the latest news and information on climate, sustainability and its communications implications and opportunities.
- In close partnership with Marketing, L&D, IT, Impact, Citizenship.
Content development:
- Organize and create content for the internal climate hub.
- Maintain/refresh Edelman’s external-facing climate web pages, with forward-thinking updates and work. Explore development of a clients-only page on climate and sustainability on
for value-add. * Monitor ways to engage colleagues with this content, and develop ways to promote the content, while tracking engagement, participation and other results.
- In partnership with Marketing, IT, Impact.
Expert engagement:
- Support MD in engagement with both climate advisory council and board climate & sustainability committee through developing pre-reads and agendas for quarterly meetings, and ensuring timely follow up and communication.
- Contribute to other climate and sustainability priorities and projects – e.g., client roundtable events, internal ambassador reach out, etc.
Ad hoc research and support:
- Provide ad hoc research for projects assessed by client portfolio management committee as needed.
Reporting & metrics:
- Provide regular reports to ELT, client and internal teams on the climate-related work across the business and the impact of our marketing efforts.
- In partnership with Impact.
The candidate will have the following experience:
- Current SAS or Associate Director level
- Have some experience in climate-related issues
- Ability to connect the dots on climate across the firm
- Drive quality control creatively, technically, and professionally.
- Be solution-orientated to resolve project issues and know when to seek advice.
- Interest and/or experience with content and informational materials development
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to think creatively
- Preferable base in NY, Chicago or London.
