Contract: Full time, permanent

Salary: £32,750 – £47,165 (dependent on experience) + M&L12 (£10,715)

History is thriving at GSAL with excellent uptake at GCSE and A-level. As the Head of History, you will be responsible for the strategic leadership of the department, leading a dedicated team of eight subject specialists to deliver the best possible outcomes for our pupils. You will inspire and support your department to ensure high quality teaching and learning that instills a passion and enthusiasm for history. You will work productively with the Director of Faculty on all aspects of quality assurance and guide, develop and support colleagues in the department. You will also line manage the teacher in charge of government and politics and be responsible for the quality assurance of this subject.

The History department has a high profile and a strong academic record at GCSE, A-level and for entry to competitive degree courses and career pathways. History is a popular choice in the sixth form and the department prides itself on the individual support it offers to students across key stages. The department comprises nine members of staff, including those who teach government and politics and offers a rich co-curricular programme to support academic extension, including trips to the Battlefields, USA and to compete in the annual Model United Nations event.
