Position Title: Digital Solutions Engineer, Emerging Technologies – ITS – FT Support
Status: Full-Time Support
Hours: 40 hours per week
Faculty/Department: Information Technology Services
Campus/Location: North Campus; Hybrid
Payband/Hourly Rate : Payband K / $44.52 – $51.62
What you will do:
Digital Solutions Engineers design, build, operate, maintain, and secure technical solutions that support/enable Humber’s business outcomes. Solutions typically include hardware, software, people, procedures, and/or data. Day-to-day activities for Digital Solutions Engineers include: (1) performing the “work”; (2) evolving the continuous delivery pipeline; (3) building in quality; (4) adapting to change; (5) decomposing stories; (6) owning estimates; (7) sizing stories; and (8) shipping features. Digital Solution Engineers are expected to stay abreast of industry developments and emerging technologies.
Digital Solutions is passionate about helping “the business” (Humber College Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning as well as the University of Guelph Humber) optimize the way it operates and delivers value to the community. Think of the team as creative problem solvers with a proven record of leveraging technology and supporting capabilities to deliver tangible results. Established in 2019 as a business unit of Information Technology Services, key areas of focus for Digital Solutions include (1) communication & collaboration; (2) emerging technologies (artificial intelligence & machine learning, digital identification & payment systems, virtual & augmented reality, virtual digital assistants, etc.); (3) hosting & infrastructure; (4) infrastructure access & threat protection; (5) personal computing & mobility; and (6) surveillance & security systems. The team also enables research in the Barrett Centre for Technology Innovation. In summary, Digital Solutions’ mandate is to pursue solutions that make people’s lives better!
Key Responsibilities Include
- Managing and maintaining end-user operating systems
- Configuration and execution of endpoint deployment solutions
- Application delivery
- Quality assurance testing
- Provisioning of images for deployment teams
- Troubleshooting and Documentation
- Planning service excellence projects
- Launching or executing projects
- Monitoring and controlling service excellence project performance
- Closing out service excellence projects
Qualifications
What you bring to the role:
Education :
- Four-year degree or equivalent in Computer Sciences and/or Information Technology Management.
- Information Technology Infrastructure Library v4 Foundations, Agile Certified Practitioner (Project Management Institute), and A+ (CompTIA).
- Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert: Cloud Platform and Infrastructure (Microsoft), Oracle Linux System Administrator
- (Oracle), Red Hat Certified Engineer (Red Hat), Server+ (CompTIA), VMware Certified Professional 6.5 – Data Center
- Virtualization (VMware), AWS Certified Solutions Engineer – Professional, Network+ (CompTIA), and/or Security+(CompTIA).
Experience :
- Minimum eight years of hands-on experience in large, complex environments designing, building, operating, maintaining, and securing enterprise-class solutions of a digital nature.
Experience with the following technologies would be an asset:
- Scripting: PowerShell, AutoIT, Batch, VBS, Shell (bash, zsh), Python
- Device Management: Microsoft Intune, Windows Autopilot, Jamf Pro, Apple School Manager
- Deployment: Ghost Solution Suite (GSS), Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT), AWS AppStream
- Packaging: Chocolatey, Numecent Cloudpaging, Munki, Microsoft Win32 Content Prep Tool
- Documentation and tracking: Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket (Git)
- Active Directory, Azure Active Directory (Entra ID), Group Policy.
