Role Purpose :

This role has been created to enhance Chevening’s digital offering while also supporting the Senior Communications Manager who will be working part time (3 days per week) for the duration of the contract.

Working to the Senior Communications Manager, lead on the development of digital communications for Chevening and Marshall audiences including:

Developing the Chevening website to improve our digital offering for Chevening applicants, scholars, and alumni.

Grow our presence on social media platforms to include implementing digital advertising campaigns.

Develop and execute comprehensive digital communication strategies.

Main Accountabilities:

Sector Expertise

Develop and execute comprehensive digital communication strategies aligned with organisational goals.

Stay abreast of industry trends in communications and the wider Higher Education sector and recommend innovative approaches to enhance digital engagement.

Ensures our brand and reputation are preserved and improved.

Provides expert advice, support, and challenge on communications to internal stakeholders.

Digital Communications

Oversee the development of an ‘online learning hub’ that supports an intuitive digital experience for Chevening applicants, scholars, and alumni.

Collaborate with web developers to implement improvements and new features.

Create and curate compelling content for all digital channels including website, social media channels, and email newsletters.

Collaborate with the wider communications team to maintain a consistent flow of relevant and engaging material.

Support our growth on social media platforms, ensuring content is timely, engaging, and aligns with brand guidelines.

Utilise social media analytics to track performance and optimise strategies.

Plan and implement digital advertising campaigns, including Google Ads, social media ads, and other online platforms.

Strategy and Planning

Make appropriate links to issues across the broader organisation, to ensure that the development of content is based on informed business insight and joined-up thinking.

Relationship & stakeholder management

Develops peer/personal networks within and outside the Marketing and Communications function at the British Council to enhance own knowledge and expertise.

Proactively builds and maintains excellent relationships with stakeholders to ensure integrated, joined up and future-proofed approaches and solutions.

Leadership & management

Ability to support the Senior Communications Manager with urgent requests/ queries for two days per week.

Plans and prioritises own work activities to ensure effective delivery of diverse responsibilities and deliverables over a quarterly to annual time horizon.

Minimum Essential:

Degree or professional qualification in communications or business or demonstrable level of equivalent experience

Proven working experience in digital communications or content production/commissioning

Experience of strategic communications planning.

Proficient in digital communications, analytics platforms, and content management systems.

Good understanding of SEO best practices and digital advertising.

Experience of building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders.

An ability to find and tell stories, exceptional copywriting and editorial skills, and experience writing effectively for a variety of channels and audiences.

Basic understanding of Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.

Ability to successfully manage various simultaneous initiatives and project timelines.

Posting – Internal/ External

Pay Band – 8

Contract – 1 year Fixed term

Salary – upto 46,203 + 3,300 london allowance if based in London.
