Organizational Background
The Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization with its headquarters in Vienna is the international organization setting up the global verification system foreseen under the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), which is the treaty banning any nuclear-weapon-test explosion or any other nuclear explosion. The Treaty provides for a global verification regime, including a network of 337 stations worldwide, a communications system, an international data centre and on-site inspections to monitor compliance.
Organizational Setting
This position is located in the Waveform Analysis Unit 2 of the Monitoring and Data Analysis Section, International Data Centre Division (IDC).
Reporting Lines
Under the supervision of Chief, Monitoring and Data Analysis Section, to:
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform interactive analysis of Seismic, Hydroacoustic and Infrasound (SHI) data to detect, locate and characterize events as required;
- Review the work of the Waveform Associate Analysts and provide feedback to ensure adherence to the procedure and standards and that the appropriate level of quality is maintained;
- Coordinate the work of Waveform Associate Analysts to ensure timely issuance of all reviewed SHI products;
- Provide related training to new Waveform Associate Analysts team members and to trainees from States Signatories as required;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education
- University degree in geophysical science or a related field.
Work Experience and Qualifications
- At least five (5) years of relevant working experience in global or regional seismic, hydroacoustic and/or infrasound data analysis;
- Solid knowledge of current interactive computer analysis systems;
- Proven ability to plan and organize the work of others, and to meet tight deadlines.
Languages
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential;
- Knowledge of other official CTBTO languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is desirable.

Remuneration:
CTBTO offers an attractive compensation and benefits package in accordance with the policies of the International Civil Service Commission. The salary offered may be subject to deductions to the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund and/or Health Insurance Scheme.
