Job description
Mallow General Hospital (MGH) is part of the Cork University Hospital Group. Under reconfiguration of services Cork & Kerry, Mallow General Hospital has been designated a Model 2 Hospital. MGH is a 54 bed acute general hospital providing inpatient, outpatient and day patient services. Services include acute in-patient medicine, a Medical Assessment Unit, an Injury Unit, an Endoscopy Suite and Theatre. Hospital services are supported by Radiology, Laboratory, Physiotherapy, Cardiac Technician, Heart Failure Clinic, Pulmonary Function Lab and Sleep Studies Service.
Care is delivered in a variety of settings and new approaches and models of care to follow the care demands of the health service are being advanced within the context of overall healthcare reform, to include Slaintécare.
The Social Work service in Mallow General Hospital offers a number of services to patients and their families. The service focuses on the social and emotional aspects linked to a patient’s admission to hospital and involves working with those who may experience distress, crisis, trauma, bereavement, adjustment to loss and breach of safety including child protection and safeguarding. The Social Worker will take a lead role in the implementation of the Assisted Decision Making (Capacity) Act 2015 (ADMCA).
The weight management service is a new service under development in Mallow General Hospital in line with the Obesity National Clinical Programme. The model of care for Obesity in children, young people and adults will ensure that an end-to-end approach is adopted, defining the way health services are developed across the lifespan. Through the implementation of this model of care, the Irish health service will ensure that the right care is delivered to individuals with overweight and obesity at the right time and in the right place. The Social Worker attached to this clinic will be responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of a patient focused, quality Social Work Service. The Social Worker, Medical Senior will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to manage a caseload of patients with obesity in Mallow General Hospital.
