East Carolina University is an emerging national research university with an enrollment of nearly 29,000 students. The University is comprised of 10 academic colleges/schools including a medical and dental school. The College of Health and Human Performance is home to six academic departments. The College employs two full-time instructional technology consultants, and pre and post award grant specialists.
ECU’s College of Health and Human Performance focuses on optimizing well-being from systemic scientific perspectives. Our students receive professional applied training including required field experiences and internships to prepare themselves to contribute to improving the human condition in order to achieve regional transformation.
Job Duties
INTERNAL POSTING: Open only to applicants currently employed by East Carolina University. Professorship is open only to current full-time members who are tenured and hold the rank of Associate Professor or Professor (excluding those whose primary responsibilities are in administration) in the College of Health and Human Performance.
The person selected for this professorship will: * Lead and promote interdisciplinary research, innovative approaches to instruction, and serve as a resource for others regarding issues related to: a) building a more peaceful and better world through sport (i.e. sport for development as envisioned by the International Olympic Committee, United States Olympic Committee, United Nations, World Health Organization, Unicef, etc.) and/or b) the development of athletes from a holistic perspective (e.g. performance or wellbeing) in the Olympic spirit exemplified by Dr. Walker.
- Engage and collaborate with campus leaders and community members; local, national, and international agencies and organizations; and others with interests related to sport for development and/or an aspect of holistic athlete development.
- Share the work supported by this professorship with academic, professional, and public audiences. Participate in outreach and donor relations relevant to this professorship (e.g. provide a tour of a lab to a member of the family the professorship honors, include reference to the professorship in professional email signatures and other appropriate contexts, and otherwise represent the professorship in a positive manner).
- The initial appointment to the professorship will be for a 3-year term and may be renewed.

Associate Professor or Professor with a tenure home in a unit within the College of Health and Human Performance at East Carolina University. (Associate Professors are eligible to be appointed as a Leroy T. Walker Distinguished Scholar; Professors are eligible to be appointed as a Leroy T. Walker Distinguished Professor)
