The role
As Convention Bureau Business Development Officer, you will be responsible for delivering success within the association and corporate market, and growing the destination’s market share in terms of volume and value. Reporting to the Senior UK Manager, but working across all markets, you will be required to achieve operational sales and performance targets as set by your line manager, or other Senior Managers.
The role involves collaborating with our academic & scientific community, city stakeholders and industry in order to deliver economic benefit, legacy and impact for those confirmed conferences and to ensure Glasgow maintains its position as one of Europe’s most popular conference destinations.
This is primarily a Sales and Business Development role, with responsibility for delivering UK and International association conferences to Glasgow. You will be asked to develop new conference business for Glasgow through our Conference Ambassador Programme, as well as source, encourage and support local Ambassadors within Glasgow. In addition, you will initiate successful bid strategies and lead the preparation of bid documents and undertake bid presentations as required. You will encourage, co-ordinate and conduct site inspections and facility visits for prospective conference organisers.
The role requires outstanding sales acumen, excellent project management skills, with the ability to deliver to tight deadlines while working on a variety of projects at one time. The role requires attention to detail and a positive can-do attitude that is at all times focussed on what’s best for our client and our city. Whilst working as part of team and representing Glasgow Convention Bureau at industry events, this role also requires a large degree of self-motivation to meet individual sales targets.
The candidate
If you’re interested in joining us as Convention Bureau Business Development Officer – you will need:
– Experience of working within a sales and client support environment, or similar
– Experience in working with senior level clients, with the ability to influence at this level
– Have strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a positive can-do attitude that is at all times client focused
– Have an interest and experience in the conference, hotel and tourism industry
– Have project management/event management experience and skills
– Have attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure to deliver to deadlines
– Have excellent administrative and organisational skills
– Experience in Adobe InDesign would be useful, however, training will be given
