The purpose of this post is to work effectively with the class teacher(s) to support play-based, child-centered pedagogy within primary.

The main duties of the Play Support Worker are:

  • Working with the class teacher(s), and through sensitive interactions, support children to develop their literacy and numeracy skills in a developmentally appropriate way.
  • To develop positive, nurturing and supportive relationships with children.
  • Taking the lead of the class teacher(s) to develop nurturing and supportive relationships with the children and where appropriate, with parents and carers.
  • To comply with relevant legislation, guidelines and procedures relating to learning, care and health and safety including Child Protection procedures and Health and Safety guidelines.
  • To contribute to the provision of a range of developmentally appropriate, high quality experiences and spaces, outdoors and indoors, which reflects the children’s ideas, aspirations, curiosities and next steps in their learning.
  • To contribute to the development of resources which are open-ended and support a play-based pedagogical approach.

Mossbank Primary School is a non-denominational school located in Mossbank. It provides nursery to P7 education for children from Mossbank, Firth and Toft. The structure of the school is 1 nursery class and 2 composite primary classes. There is currently a total of 58 pupils on the roll. The school is managed by a teaching Head Teacher. The current staffing complement is 2 teachers assisted by support staff as required to meet school demands. The current Head Teacher is Mrs Jennifer Christie.

  • The grade of this post is F
  • Rate of pay shown in the advert is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £1.3161 per hour
  • Permanent Part Time post for 5.0 Hours per Week , 40.50 weeks per year, plus 6.48 weeks (pro rata) paid holiday to be taken during school holidays
  • Preferred candidates will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update prior to a formal offer of employment being made
  • A relocation package does not apply to this post
  • We will pay interview expenses from within Shetland
  • We are happy to talk flexible working
