The opportunity
Leader of data analytics and internal reporting within CWB Wealth, the candidate will have a focus on identifying the sources of key data, processes to gather the data on a consistent basis, and will develop accurate and reliable reporting procedures. Furthermore, this individual will partner with business line leaders to identify key reporting tools to properly evaluate the CWB Wealth business and to present and support strategy decisions. The Lead, CWB Wealth Analytics and Reporting will work to identify opportunities and make recommendations to inform sales strategy, identify cost reduction opportunities, create discipline and process over data gathering, and develop clear reporting materials to be used for insights to CWB leadership, other CWB business lines, and Execo and Board reporting.
This role will be a key strategic member of the wealth team, participating in special projects by providing data insights and reporting to the leadership team. Provides direct supervision to the Systems & Process Specialist role which focuses on supporting the client account maintenance and reporting processes including all system changes and upgrade initiatives within CWB Wealth.
The day-to-day
Data Analytics and Reporting
Operating at a leadership level, oversee and drive the development of client data analytics, management reporting, and insight strategies, activities, and plans to support the objectives set out by the leadership team in CWB Wealth .
Oversee the creation and use of data analytics to make effective business decisions in CWB Wealth.
Identify, drive, and build the development of client data analytics, management reporting, and insight strategies, activities, and plans to support the objectives set out by the leadership team in CWB Wealth
Identify the source of data, oversee the data and information collection from disparate sources, link and analyze this information, perform data integrity checks, and conduct analysis.
Identify and standardize the use of data and analytics in support of CWB Wealth’s business strategy. This includes the governance of data and algorithms used for analysis, and analytical applications
Institute a programmatic approach for information management to identify, prioritize and execute the data and analytic initiatives with clear line of sight to both wealth and enterprise strategies and business outcomes.
Oversee the reporting of the key financial measures for CWB Wealth such as the Metrics that Matter
Contribute to the planning and budgeting process for the business as required
Oversee internal data analysis and research efforts to build other income sources (Retention, Growth, and Attraction strategies and tactics).
Assist in controlling and budgeting Non-Interest Expenses (NIE’s) for CWB Wealth, reviewing regularly to maintain NIE’s within budget and provide reasonable explanations for over/out-of-budget items.
Understand and consistently recommend improvements to existing CWB Wealth processes, seeking and advising on continuous improvement throughout the Bank to maximize the client experience.
Business Transformation
Analyze and evaluate evidence based data, to provide empirical support and make recommendations on the client service delivery model that can be shared and scrutinized by other CWB Wealth stakeholders.
Support the development of business strategy and execution by driving valuable insights gained from mid-long term CWB Wealth data analytics.
Oversee monthly and quarterly reporting packages to the executive and prepare materials used by the EVP to use during the quarterly board meetings.
Work with other CWB corporate departments to research, develop plans, and implement solutions that add value and deliver on promises to our clients.
Review and recommend opportunities for continued product and project alignment with CWB Wealth’s strategic direction and business plans, including working with other departments to drive maximum value of the design and implementation of a new CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system.
Participate as required, in committees and workshops designed to address gaps in performance in terms of improving business development, enhancing product and service sales and improving the client experience
Represent department on Corporate Office Data Governance committees and others as required.
Leadership
Ensure a high degree of quality and accuracy for all team deliverables
Provide leadership in areas of strategy, results, budgeting, training, coaching and communication.
Ensure all identified objectives are being addressed properly and work flow is being completed as required.
Establish and implement clearly defined departmental procedures, defining requirements and building tools, forms and templates that will drive efficiency and value for team members
Work cohesively and cooperatively with CWB Wealth colleagues and other teams, branches, and departments throughout CWB Group.
Establish processes for the prioritization of research projects and initiatives.
Support the training of people leaders on the appropriate tools and resources available that provide insight into their respective departments
Complete all mandatory training as required.
Act with integrity, accountability, respect, common sense and caring to cultivate the relationships we want.
Participate in regular department meetings to provide/receive updates from a corporate and department perspective.
Ensure the broader CWB Analytics team understands CWB Wealth’s strategy and vision and how each role contributes to it
The successful incumbent
Education
Bachelor’s degree with a focus in business, finance, computer science, data science, or related field
CFA Charterholder, CFA Candidate (Level III), or CPA or CA equivalent
Professional Experience
10+ years combined in Data Analytics, Information Services, and/or Finance/Financial Reporting with experience specifically in Wealth Management
Strategic thinker with exceptional problem-solving skills; needs to be able to turn findings into actionable recommendations and speak the business language
Ability to work collaboratively with other CWB departments to obtain data and information from disparate sources, link and analyze this information, perform data integrity checks, and conduct analysis.
Knowledge of current best practices, tools, and frameworks as well as emerging technologies, trends, and processes
Seasoned financial industry knowledge
Position requires a senior leader who can function independently and lead a growing dynamic team
Experience with Power BI or other data management tools
Experience leading or working with diverse, cross-functional groups
Strong presentation skills computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
