Our office is located in Dublin 2 and we are currently working a hybrid model (50% remote working) and offer flexi time.

The job: As a vibrant leader in the Global Citizenship (GC) Team, you will be responsible for rolling out Concern’s Global Citizenship programme through the formal education sector at both primary and secondary level.

Reporting to the Head of Global Citizenship, you will be responsible for the implementation of the Global Citizenship Education (GCE) programme, which includes a diverse range of projects including the flagship debates programme at primary and secondary level, school workshops, TY Academy (our work experience programme). The Schools Programme Manager will work with the school’s team to ensure the programme is following best Global Citizenship Education practice and guidelines.

If you join us, this is what you will be doing:

Leadership

  • Lead a team of six schools programme officers who deliver the schools GCE programme and debates volunteer programme across the island of Ireland;
  • Work closely with the Head of Political Engagement and Campaigns to ensure complementarity to deliver the GC programme;
  • Guide the team to ensure quality education delivery in line with good practices in both GCE and working with children and young people under the age of 18.
  • Keep up to date with trends and research in global GCE practice to bring innovation to the school’s programme and encourage this in the team.
  • Problem solve quickly and efficiently and respond to challenges which volunteers and participants are facing.
  • Be confident in your understanding of GCE and strengthen the capability of your team in this area

Facilitation, public engagement and networking

  • Represent Concern at events and participate in networks and working groups in the wider GCE sector relating to the formal education sector.
  • Manage relationships with stakeholders in the formal education sector and collaborate on events, projects and initiatives in consultation with the Head of Global Citizenship.
  • Support your team in resource development, event, and workshop planning/delivery.
  • Deliver trainings and talks on the work of Concern’s schools programme both internally and with external groups.
  • Collaborate with the wider Global Citizenship team on joint projects and initiatives;
  • Work with teams across Concern to connect young people in Ireland with programme participants in programme countries and partners with whom Concern works.

Planning and reporting

  • Plan the activities of the school’s programme on an annual basis based on the needs of schools, teachers and the GC strategic plan ensuring staff capacity and quality outputs.
  • Be responsible for organising and collecting monitoring and evaluation data for the school’s programme.
  • Use data and feedback from participants to adapt the programme to meet the needs of schools and young people.

Teamwork, compliance, and values

  • Ensure compliance with key policies and guidelines such as GDPR, Dóchas Code on Images and Messages and the IDEA Code of Good Conduct for GCE
  • Lead the team in ensuring child safeguarding is a priority, ensuring that all of the school’s programme (and any other GC activities) complies with Child Safeguarding laws and policies
  • Ensure adherence to the programme budget guided by the Head of Global Citizenship
  • Maintain the Schools Programme database, ensuring accurate and up to date records of programme participants.
  • Lead the garda vetting process for volunteer adjudicators.
  • Work closely with the Political Engagement and campaigns manager to develop cross team initiatives in line with the strategic plan.
  • Support wider GC team at events, workshops, debates and in other activities that come up in due course.

Skills you will bring:

  • A Third level qualification in Primary or Secondary teaching
  • A qualification or experience in Global Citizenship Education or an area related to international development.
  • At least three years’ of experience of working in the formal education sector
  • Experience in delivering/facilitating GCE workshops for children, young people, and teachers/youth workers.
  • Experience in delivering CPD and trainings to teachers linked to a national curriculum.
  • Experience managing and developing an education programme.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and presentation)
  • You are available to work some unsocial hours and travel to all parts of the country to support programme delivery.
  • You have a full, clean driver’s license.
  • Active commitment to demonstrating leadership on workplace equality, diversity and inclusion and role modelling a positive safeguarding ethos.
  • Experience working as an effective, supportive and productive member of a team.

You will report to the Head of Global Citizenship and work with your colleagues in the Strategy, Advocacy and Learning Directorate, as well as other directorates including International Programmes Directorate; Communications Directorate;

Fundraising and Development Directorate; as well as colleagues across Concern.

The salary is from €54,500 – €59,172 salary range (band 5) and this is a permanent contract with a six month probation period.
