Location: Beaux Lane House, Mercer Street Lower, Dublin 2
Contract/Duration: Fixed Term Contract for 2 years, with the potential for extension.

Summary of Post
The Institute of Global Surgery at RCSI is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Researcher to join our dynamic team. The Postdoctoral Researcher will work closely with the Chair of the Institute and the Research Programme Director, primarily focusing on writing and assisting with research tenders and overseeing projects and tenders from inception to completion. This position offers an exceptional opportunity for a researcher with strong organizational and communication skills to contribute to cutting-edge research projects in the field of global surgery and global health (including the intersection between environmental sciences and health).
Specifically, the duties of the post are:
Tender Development and Support:
- Collaborate with the Chair of the Institute, the IGS Research and Education Programme Directors and the Office of Research and Innovation to proactively identify and evaluate potential research tender opportunities.
- Actively participate with colleagues in the development of high-quality tender proposals, ensuring compliance with all submission requirements.
- Conduct thorough research and analysis to inform tender content and strategies.
- Prepare, organize, and submit tender documents within specified deadlines.
- Maintain a database of relevant tenders and funding opportunities.
- Engage/consult with key stakeholders to inform tender development.
Project Management:
- Oversee the entire lifecycle of research projects and tenders, from initiation to completion.
- Develop project plans, timelines, and budgets in collaboration with the respective project leads/PIs.
- Coordinate project activities, including data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Monitor progress, identify potential issues, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Ensure compliance with ethical guidelines and regulatory requirements.
Research and Data Analysis:
- Conduct literature reviews and data analysis to support research projects.
- Contribute to data collection and analysis.
- Prepare high quality research publications, reports, and presentations.
- Stay up-to-date with developments in global surgery and global health-related research and education.
- Potential of undertaking overseas assignments and conduct fieldwork as may be required from time to time.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with the Chair of the Institute and the Research Programme Director and work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team, share knowledge, and contribute to a positive research and education environment.
- Communicate research progress and findings effectively through written reports and presentations.
- Effectively collaborate with internal stakeholder within IGS, the School of Population Health and other RCSI PIs and stakeholders to optimise the overall potential of IGS research.
- Collaborate with external stakeholders, including government agencies, healthcare organizations, and industry partners.
Requirements
Research Field Medical sciences » Health sciences Education Level PhD or equivalent
Skills/Qualifications
Qualifications – (Essential):
- PhD or equivalent professional experience in health/public health/social science research.
Knowledge & Experience – (Essential):
- Demonstrated experience in the development, management, delivery and evaluation of research projects ideally in a Higher Education setting.
- Experience in working on health-related studies utilising qualitative and/or quantitative data analysis techniques is essential. Other relevant research areas can also be considered.
- Excellent organisational, communication and computing skills, and must have experience of effectively working as part of a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team.
- Proven experience of high quality grant and tender proposals with successful outcomes.
- A record of high quality publications in relevant journals.
- Proven skills in preparing research reports and outputs for user audiences.
- Strong research and analytical skills, with a track record of academic or research achievements.
- An ability to work collaboratively and constructively within a team with an ability to progress and deliver objective autonomously.
Knowledge & Experience – (Desirable):
- Competence in statistical analysis/modelling.
- Project management experience.
- Experience in organising events for impact and/or dissemination purposes
