purpose of the role:
The Basic Grade Dietitian will be responsible for the organization, provision and evaluation of Nutrition and Dietetic services to patients referred (in-patients and out-patients) from the medical/surgical teams to which he/she is assigned. The Basic Grade Dietitian will participate in Departments rotation programme which provides an opportunity to gain experience working in a range of medical specialties including nephrology, Age Related Health Care, Respiratory medicine, endocrinology, Rheumatology and gastroenterology and in surgical and orthopedic specialties.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide expert nutritional advice for the teams on the management of patients under their care
  • Work in collaboration with the Dietitians also assigned to these areas of assignment
  • Provide cross cover for other clinical areas, as required
  • Participate in the design and implementation of protocols/procedures for nutritional screening, referral, intervention and assessment
  • Communicate with medical, nursing, other clinical and non-clinical staff regarding patients under his/her care, thus supporting and strengthening a multidisciplinary approach to patient care
  • Attend case conferences, team meetings and ward rounds as appropriate
  • Keep the necessary records appropriate to office and as defined by the Manager of Nutrition & Dietetics
  • Participate in the Departments supervision programme
  • Assist in the clinical training of Student Dietitians on placement in the Hospital
  • Participate in the Departments upskilling programme for Dietitians which will provide an opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills to work in other specialities
  • Participate in the Department’s Nutrition Education Programme for staff based in the Hospital, including education for staff working in the areas of assignment
  • Be responsible for his/her own professional development and keep abreast of developments in Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Participate in ongoing audits relating to patient care and support research in the area of assignment
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of standards and policies for Nutrition and Dietetic services
  • Contribute to continuing quality improvement initiatives, undertaken by the department.
  • Assist the Dietetic Manager in the planning and development of the future Nutrition and Dietetic services
  • Carry out other duties appropriate to the post, as may be assigned by the Manager of Nutrition & Dietetics

Qualifications & Experience required
Must:

  • Be registered as a Dietitian by the Dietitians Registration Board at CORU

And

  • Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Dietitians Register maintained by the Dietitians Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued
  • Experience in the provision of artificial nutrition support, enteral and parenteral, is essential.

Desirable:

  • Post qualification experience in clinical Nutrition & Dietetics
  • INDI Membership
  • Candidates who are eligible for registration with CORU in the coming six months may apply. However any offer of employment would be subject to successfully receiving registration.

Reward & Recognition

  • Remuneration is in accordance with the Department of Health Consolidated Salary Scales, grade code 3389.
  • A panel will be formed to fill future permanent and temporary posts.
  • The annual leave entitlement is 27 working days per year. The leave year runs from 1st April to the 31st of March each year.
  • Normal working hours are 35 worked over 5 days. Your contracted hours of work are liable to change between the hours of 8 am to 8 pm over 7 days to meet the requirements for extended day services in accordance with the terms of the Framework Agreement.
