Job Description:

As a Public Health Navigator at the UF Health Cancer Center (UFHCC), you will support community-based screening and navigation to care, working alongside our partners in the community and across the health system to facilitate cancer-focused prevention and screening activities as part of the Office of Community Outreach & Engagement (COE). These roles travel throughout the catchment area to attend community-based events and support critical populations across north-central Florida.

In your new role you will be responsible for the following:

  • Coordinating specific health and social assessments and linkage to community based social services to support navigation to resources to improve health outcomes and clinical trial participation.
  • Coordinating screening, testing, and follow-ups as part of COE clinical programs, working with care providers to assess and communicate results to participants.
  • Collecting social determinants of health data, working with partners to provide referrals to appropriate community, clinical, and social resources.
  • Assisting community partners in program development and event planning aimed at promotion of health behaviors and reduction of cancer burden among underserved populations.

These are professional, early-career positions, ideal for candidates with a background in community health and/or social services and an interest in public health and health disparities. Staff in these roles an essential link between patients and care providers across the UFHCC catchment area. A complete job description will be provided to candidates selected for interview. 

Expected Salary:

I: $45,000 – $52,000

II: $55,000 – $62,500

Final salary and classification will be commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Public Health Navigator I

Bachelor’s degree in in an appropriate area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Valid FL Class E driver’s license.

Public Health Navigator II

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Valid FL Class E driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge/Experience:

Public Health Navigator I

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in community health program administration and/or social services support.
  • Some experience and/or knowledge of administering FIT testing and other screening tools.
  • Foundational understanding or exposure to social determinants of health and community health support.
  • Phlebotomy training and/or certification.

Public Health Navigator II

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
  • Three to five years’ experience in community health program administration and/or social services support.
  • Experience and knowledge of administering FIT testing and other screening tools.
  • Understanding social determinants of health and community health support as it relates to clinical care and community health initiatives.
  • Phlebotomy training and/or certification.

  • Highly resourceful and proactive team-player, with the ability to be effective independently and maintain appropriate discretion.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Basic skills in assessing vitals and obtaining health information in a socially conscious and professional manner.
  • Excellent delegation and time-management skills with the ability to successfully manage multiple, cross-functional priorities seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, particularly proof-reading and public speaking skills.
  • Demonstrated success and experience in project management, as well as the ability to lead focus groups and committees through project completion.
  • Proficiency using the Microsoft Office suite.
