The German Studies Program in the USC Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences invites applications for a part-time, teaching-track instructor pool. This is a pool of part-time instructors or lecturers for the department to draw on as necessary. Qualified applicants will be contacted when positions are available. The teaching load of part-time instructors or lecturers can vary from 1 to 3 sections of beginning and/or intermediate German language per semester.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Successful candidates:

• must hold at least a masters degree in the field of instruction. A PhD in German literature or linguistics is preferred.

• possess native-like fluency in German

• have prior college level teaching experience

• demonstrate excellence in teaching and have expertise in curriculum development

• must be committed to ongoing professional development to maintain currency in the field, including effective use of technology

• should demonstrate their ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and variety of students with diverse backgrounds.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Successful candidates:

• should be familiar with ACTFL proficiency guidelines and world readiness standards

• show familiarity with a student-centered language teaching methodology

• possess expertise in the culture of German-speaking countries with possible emphasis in literature, media, politics, social issues, and popular culture.

The per course rate for this position is $11,000.
