HMP Addiewell opened in 2008 and is run by Sodexo Justice Services under contract to the Scottish Prison Service. It houses convicted and untried adult males and is situated in the village of Addiewell in the central belt of Scotland between Glasgow and Edinburgh.Addiewell is designed as a “learning” prison, where residents can address their offending behaviour and the circumstances which led to their imprisonment through Purposeful Activity. We are committed to promoting diversity and inclusion, eliminating discrimination, and meeting the diverse needs of all residents and to support them on their learning journey we now seek a qualified SEN Assistant (Special Education Needs) Assistant.Many of our learners struggled through school due to learning difficulties and neurodiversity and have become disengaged through a lack of tailored support and self-confidence. You will play a vital role in breaking this cycle and instilling assurance and a renewed passion for learning and self-improvement.Working on both on a 1-2-1 basis and with small groups you will help residents uplift their numeracy and literacy skills to a level where they can confidently become part of our main educational classes.For other learners you will guide them through Open University Enrolment and providing academic support.
