Job description
Are you looking for new opportunities to develop your career in an innovative emergency services environment?
At North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, you will find the best place to thrive. As a Locum Consultant, you will play a major role in leading the development of a novel system of integrated emergency care at Hinchingbrooke Hospital.
The Emergency Departments at Peterborough City Hospital and Hinchingbrooke Hospital, which span two distinct acute hospital sites, are currently undergoing exciting development initiatives, including the implementation of a novel system of integrated emergency care and a system-wide approach to Frailty and Acute Medicine, which boasts one of the nation’s most successful frailty services (Frailty CQUIN 2023).
We are encouraging and supporting you in developing special interests relevant to the Emergency Medicine specialty e.g. ultrasound, paediatrics, elderly care, ambulatory care and critical care.
Our external partners will provide you with exciting development opportunities. We have established strong links with the Mid-Anglian General Practitioners Accident Scheme (MAGPAS) Helimedix and East Anglia Air Ambulance (EAA) with several Consultants and registrars working clinical shifts with them.
If you like to find more about the role and organise an informal visit, we are welcoming you to contact Dr D. Vijayasankar – Consultant in Emergency Medicine and Divisional Clinical Director for Urgent and Emergency Care at [email protected].

The job plan is anticipated to contain 10 programmed activities per week. The Supporting Professional Activity shall be agreed at individual job planning. A minimum of 1.5 SPA is granted to start with, and additional SPA activity shall be made up by supervision of trainees, non-trainees, ACP’s and Physician Associates.
You will be joining the consultant on call rota of 1:8, expected to cover for colleagues’ absence from duty on the basis of mutually agreed arrangements with the Department and Employing Trust.
Your main goal will be to deliver clinical assessment, treatment and supervision to all patients’ care requirements attending the Emergency Department until onward referral and discharge.

You will ensure adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of patients, to be able to contact them when necessary, and to observe the current local arrangements for advising details of leave.
By demonstrating your passion for providing outstanding care and clinical leadership, you will foster a positive and supportive environment that encourages the team to innovate and go beyond the call of duty, thereby enabling us to become a leading regional and national provider of emergency and acute care.
