ROCKWOOL is seeking an HR Manager, based in our Milton, ON factory, to join the North American Human Resources Team. This is an onsite, full time position that provides human resources management services to all salaried and hourly employees at our manufacturing facility in Milton. This position reports to the Human Resources Director, N.A.

Your Future Team

Reporting to the Director of HR, North America, you’ll join a dynamic team where you can utilize your strong customer service and employee relations skills combined with your technical HR background to impact a highly engaged workforce.

What You Will Be Doing

Labor Relations

  • Lead, coordinate and document the collective bargaining process
  • Maintain library of current labor relations information
  • Participate in and document all meetings between management and the union
  • Attend all Step 1,2,3 Grievance meetings. Present accurate and up-to-date records of circumstances relating to the grievance
  • Provide support and assistance to management in all union grievance matters from initiation to conclusion
  • Provide support and participate in all arbitration, conciliation, mediation, and bargaining meetings

Policies & Procedures

  • In conjunction with HR team, prepare, update and monitor compliance with policies and procedures for all salaried (indirect) and hourly (direct) employees
  • Coach and train factory management team and supervisors to implement changes made through new policies and procedures

Wage & Salary Administration

  • Source and provide salary information required to attract and retain competent staff
  • Monitor local hourly wage information and provide current information
  • Assist Operations Director with position descriptions, annual performance reviews and the salary review process

Benefits Administration and Claims Management

  • Work with centralized Total Rewards Team to provide benefits information to factory employees, salaried and hourly
  • Work with centralized Total Rewards Team on claims management activities for all short and long term disability claims to minimize duration and resulting cost impact
  • Arrange for reimbursements relating to employee programs (tuition reimbursement, hybrid car program, fitness, etc.)
  • With H&S Manager, coordinate a Return to Work program for any workplace injury, short term disability or long term disability claims

Recruitment

  • Create and maintain site manning plan
  • Work with Talent Acquisition team to source and identify candidates for factory employment consideration as requested
  • Participate in interviews with hiring manager
  • Coach hiring managers to ensure compliance with legislation relevant during interview process
  • Develop, update and facilitate all new employee orientation
  • Monitor hiring needs and progress for direct factory positions through headcount reporting

Employee Development and Retention

  • Provide assistance in identifying internal candidates for career advancement
  • Identify the need for courses, seminars and educational materials
  • Assist in the delivery of internal training programs as required
  • Develop the apprenticeship program and co-op programs with local skilled trades colleges

Legislative Compliance

  • Remain current with all relevant employment legislation
  • Keep management apprised of changes to all relevant employment legislation

Communication

  • Participate as required in Communication meetings
  • Ensure that communication boards are up to date in the factory

General

  • Drive the Performance Management program for indirect employees and ensure on-time completion of goal-setting, mid-term and year-end reviews
  • Drive Performance Management and/or evaluations for direct employees through the Supervisors
  • Coordinate and provide input into bi-annual People Meetings
  • Other duties as required.

What You Bring:

  • Post-secondary degree in Human Resources Management or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a progressive human resources position.
  • Experience working within a union environment
  • Experience working within a manufacturing environment
  • Proven track record in managing multiple projects within deadline
  • High drive, commitment and self-motivation.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
