This is a full-time 12 month fixed term post created to provide the post-holder with extensive exposure to hepatobiliary endoscopy (EUS and ERCP), whilst providing endoscopy services to the department in the face of growing local demand. The Endoscopy Service is hosted within the Division of Surgery, but delivered by Gastroenterology Hepatology, Upper & Lower GI and Hepatobiliary Surgery clinicians. The successful applicant will either hold accreditation in Gastroenterology, Hepatology or Surgery, or taking time out of a recognised training programme, with training programme director approval. You will be independent in diagnostic and ideally therapeutic gastroscopy, sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy, ideally in upper and lower endoscopy.The post holder will work flexibly across our Endoscopy suites at South Bristol Community Hospital (SBCH), Weston General Hospital and the Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI).Main duties of the jobThis role will require exceptional patient care as the post holder will provide lower and upper diagnostic endoscopy procedures. Your responsibilities will include accurate reporting on procedures and ensuring rapid request of next steps when necessary.Service Development and Research: The successful appointee is expected to take a full role in the delivery of the Trust’s wide agenda for Governance. The Trust believes in an open learning environment with a clear risk management strategy that allows innovation and improvement in care whilst placing patient safety at the centre of our values.The post holder will:– Take an active part in the department’s audit arrangements– Support and, where appropriate, lead improvement projects for the department– Participate actively in departmental meetingsCommunication: The post holder will be required to communicate effectively and professionally with a range of staff which will include sensitive information using a range of routes. Desirable

  • Endoscopy train the trainers
  • Educational qualification

Knowledge and Experience
Essential

  • Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in relevant specialty and evidence of current training in ERCP/EUR
  • Able to take responsibility for delivering service endoscopy without direct supervision
  • Up to date knowledge and experience of relevant specialty
  • Knowledge of NHS priorities with reference to specialty
  • Understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities it implies
  • Knowledge of the principles of clinical audit and evidence of participation
  • Knowledge of the principals involved in research and involvement in research
  • Evidence of peer review research papers
  • Experience in clinical trial recruitment

Desirable

  • Experience of supervising trainees

Skills and Abilities
Essential

  • Skills in upper and lower diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy
  • Ability to manage acute GI bleeding
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally
  • Ability to work with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook)
  • Positive approach to evidence based practice

Desirable

  • Experience of PEJ and NJ placement
  • Participation in CPD scheme and, where relevant, evidence of participation
