As the Tribal Engagement Manager, you will play a crucial role in promoting collaboration and cultivating strong relationships with Tribal Nations, organizations, businesses, and other key stakeholders, including elected officials, culture protectors and Tribal Historic Preservation Officers, community groups, business leaders, and educational institutions. You will work closely with Tribal leaders, facilitating engagements with AES leadership to establish long-lasting connections. With a focus on outreach and partnership building, you will serve as the face of AES Clean Energy in Native American communities, prioritizing issue resolution and effective information dissemination. Join us in our mission to advance responsible development and engage stakeholders across our renewable energy portfolio.​Main Responsibilities:​​​Cultivate Enduring Relationships: Collaborate closely with Tribal Governments and leadership, community members, and associations to foster strong and lasting relationships. Demonstrate deep respect for Tribal sovereignty, culture, values, and traditions in all interactions. Serve as a primary point of contact for Tribal leaders and communities, actively listening to their needs, concerns, and aspirations, and responding in a timely and respectful manner.​Stakeholder Engagement and Social Impact: Work alongside external stakeholders, such as Tribal representatives, NGOs/Foundations, and internal teams including AES Development, Permitting, and Government Relations, to design and implement engagement and Social Impact programs that align with AES’ commitment to sustainable development.​Communication and Collateral Development: Collaborate with the Communications team to develop effective communication and collateral campaigns that effectively convey AES’ commitment to Tribal engagement and social responsibility.​Consultant Management: Oversee and manage Tribal Relations consultants across AES Clean Energy’s footprint, ensuring their alignment with AES’ goals and values.​Partnership Commitments: Track and ensure the implementation of AES partnership commitments, providing regular updates to relevant stakeholders.​Representation at Events: Represent AES at relevant events, conferences, and meetings, serving as an ambassador for AES’ commitment to Tribal engagement and renewable energy.​Site Tours Coordination: Coordinate and participate in site tours for Tribal leaders and community members, showcasing AES’ renewable energy projects and addressing any questions or concerns.​Policy and Standards: Assist in maintaining and updating the AES Policy on Tribal Engagement and relevant standards and initiatives, ensuring alignment with best practices and evolving industry guidelines.​Local Community Insight: Identify and communicate local sentiment, priorities, risks, and concerns to the internal team, enabling tailored messaging.​Reporting and Tracking: Create and maintain comprehensive records of all contacts, key stakeholders, and interactions on a project and portfolio basis, utilizing a CRM tool to ensure efficient stakeholder tracking. Contribute to AES’ Corporate Sustainability and Investor reporting.​Travel: Depending on safety guidelines, undertake frequent travel to develop relationships in priority project communities, fostering collaboration and trust.​​Qualifications:​​Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Native American Studies, Environmental Studies, Communications) or equivalent work experience.​Demonstrated experience working with or for Tribal Nations, businesses, or organizations in the United States. The successful candidate must be knowledgeable in Native American cultures, land, and policies.​Minimum seven years working in roles of increasing responsibility in social performance or a related discipline. Experience with Tribal consultation for energy projects preferred.​Experience with and/or knowledgeable of key regulations relevant to Tribal Nations and Energy, such as Section 106, National Historic Preservation Act, Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act, and the National Environmental Policy Act​Requires conscientious, culturally sensitive, and diplomatic interpersonal skills.​Must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.​Ability to engage at all levels, including Tribal residents, community leaders, business groups, and elected Tribal Leaders.​Ability to support and, in some cases, lead the participatory design, agreement-making, and governance processes.​Strong stakeholder analysis skills.​Willingness to travel frequently to engage with Tribal leaders and communities​Exemplify our Values of Safety First, Highest Standards, and All Together.​​AES is an Equal Opportunity Employer who is committed to building strength and delivering long-term sustainability through diversity and inclusion.
