Project Overview and Role:
USAID’s Trade Reform and Development in Egypt (TRADE) project builds on decades of U.S. investments in Egyptian businesses and economic policy with the aim of substantially increasing Egyptian exports from Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). The TRADE project focuses on seven selected sectors: engineering products, food processing, home textiles, ready-made garments, chemicals, printing and packaging, and building materials. Through the project, USAID works with the Government of Egypt to improve the trade and investment policy environment and reduce barriers to trade. USAID also partners with business associations and export councils to strengthen the trade services ecosystem for small- and medium-sized exporters and with private companies to help them access new international markets to increase export sales. TRADE tackles many trade and investment-related issues to sustainably increase Egyptian exports and drive economic growth.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Trade Policy and Investment Specialist will be reporting to the R3 team lead and will have a wide range of duties and responsibilities aiming at advancing trade facilitation, policy, and investment initiatives including planning, follow-up, documentation, and reporting. TASKS
- Facilitate GAFI Capacity Building initiative in close collaboration with the Capacity Building consultant to ensure effective support and implementation;
- Work in close collaboration with the Trade Policy advisor to ensure effective support and implementation of trade policy activities;
- Assist in creating and implementing action plans for the interventions undertaken with multiple stakeholders;
- Develop and monitor TORs of consultants and service providers as required;
- Facilitate meetings and workshops with key stakeholders including government agencies, industry associations, and the private sector to gather insights, address concerns, and build collaborative relationships;
- Collaborate with various project teams to ensure an integrated approach to project objectives;
- Assist in producing weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports;
- Help in editing technical reports to ensure delivery of better and timely quality of outputs;
- Ensure all MEL requirements and follow-ups are met and taken into consideration in every task undertaken by the Result;
- Provide support for other initiatives as per the requirements identified by the R3 team lead.
Required Qualifications:
- University degree in Economics, Business Administration, Development, or a related field;
- 5 to 7 years of relevant experience;
- Strong understanding of the economic and trade landscape in Egypt;
- Ability to work on multiple tasks to meet tight deadlines;
- Prior experience with USAID projects is preferable;
- English proficiency and strong English language writing, communication, and interpersonal skills;
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office;
- A strong capacity for effective teamwork, a high degree of flexibility, ability to work under pressure;
- Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, presentation, and time-management skills and attention to detail and accuracy.
