Position SummaryThe Director will develop and implement communication strategies in support of the Technical Operations & Risk (TO&R) organization of 13,000 employees to engage and educate internal/external audiences about the Johnson & Johnson commitment to predict and navigate risk, and deliver operational excellence in safety, quality & compliance to ensure continuity for our medicines, medical devices and services.In partnership with the Senior Director, she/he will also serve as a key communications advisor to various members of the Tech Ops & Risk Leadership Team as well as the Chief Risk Officer for J&J who is also an Executive Committee Member.
Areas of Responsibilities:Organizational Communications:

  • Lead the development and execution of an organizational communication strategy designed to excite, engage and inspire 1300 TO&R employees by leveraging the full breadth of communication channels, such as Town Halls, Senior Leadership meetings, HOME articles, videos, ad hoc email communications and Viva Engage.
  • Build strong networks and relationships within the TO&R organization to understand the attitudes, desires and needs of our team to help them achieve their full potential.
  • Collaborate with business partners, TO&R functional communicators and Sector Supply Chain leaders to energize and inspire employees through powerful organizational communications, grounded in the J&J Purpose and our TO&R Promise statement.
  • Identify and act on key opportunities to eliminate/improve practices that stand in the way of achieving results and delivering valuable solutions, by delegating tasks, utilizing resources effectively and increasing self-service communication model.
  • Manage TO&R communication budget.
  • Provide oversight of communication specialists and/or consultant support, in the flawless execution of Quarterly newsletter and ad-hoc TO&R communications.
  • In partnership with the EEX Digital Communications team, identify, develop and leverage new technologies and social platforms that connect and engage our employees to increase effectiveness.
  • Demonstrate confidence and clarity in leading organizational change through strategic communication and engagement tactics appropriate to different stakeholders.
  • Drive outcomes by championing a measurement approach to organizational communication, incorporating relevant metrics that are indicators of employee engagement and alignment.

Thought Leadership:

  • Engage and educate stakeholders on how the Johnson & Johnson commitment to quality, safety, and compliance is at the core of our aspiration to change the trajectory of human health; collaborate with other communications teams to understand engagement metrics and design strategies to drive continuous improvement.
  • Elevate the reputation – and positively advances the objectives of-TO&R through a proactive external leadership communications strategy.
  • Develop insights-driven engagement and communications plan that builds thought leadership and grows reputation/preference over time.
  • Develop overarching TO&R core narrative, programs and new content for use across channels.
  • Partner with senior and mid-level leaders to establish engagement strategies, related content and counsel.
  • Establish measurement plan to ensure success in dynamic environment, and illustrate value of strategic communications to senior leadership.
  • Direct communications and public affairs agency partners and oversee related budgets.

Issues Management:

  • Proactively identify potential issues and develop issues-management strategies.
  • Develop message maps and public statements designed to ensure a timely response to key issues.
  • Manage issues and other situations that may impact stakeholder trust and company reputation.
  • Partner closely with global J&J Media Relations, Employee Experience, Investor Relations and other CoEs to ensure Enterprise alignment

Other:

  • Assist in management of public relations agency; includes managing public relations budget, measurement and reviews.
  • Monitor, measure, and improve day-to-day communication projects and programs utilizing a continuous improvement mindset; analyze metrics and performance indicators to recommend improvements and drive more effective global communication.
  • Maintain stakeholder trust through effective management of complex, significant issues: Proactively identify potential risks / challenges and develop issues-management strategies
  • Drive employee engagement and advocacy through powerful organizational communication: Partnering with business leaders, develop internal communication strategy and messages to inspire, engage, inform and align employees
  • Shape and influence business decisions and serve as trusted advisor to mid-level leaders, including TO&R leadership.
  • Develop and curate content that is compelling, relevant and grounded in stakeholder understanding and insights.
  • Foster the sharing of best practice and learnings with cross-functional colleagues.
  • Proven performer with 10 years of experience and increasing responsibility managing regulated healthcare public relations programs in a corporate, NGO, government agency or public relations agency environment
  • Proven track record of successful public relations and integrated communications strategies
  • Knowledge of healthcare policy environment
  • Successful track record with reputation-related programs
  • Experience driving successful media relations strategies, including acting as media spokesperson
  • Ability to develop successful working relationships and influence with mid- and senior-level executives
  • Experience in identification of issues and proactive issues/crisis management
  • Experience in managing project budgets / schedules
  • Bachelor’s degree required

Salary:The base pay range for this position is $137,000 – $244,950 USD
Bonus:The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/ performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.

  • Vacation – up to 120 hours per calendar year
  • Sick time – up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington – up to 56 hours per calendar year
  • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays – up to 13 days per calendar year
  • Work, Personal and Family Time – up to 40 hours per calendar year
