Considerate.PositionThis position exists to provide program specific support to Engineering Career Connections and contributes to ensuring that each engineering student has access to information, programming, and events that support their career exploration and successful transition from student to professional. The role will independently plan, organize, manage communications and host a variety of events that provide career exploration, professional readiness and networking opportunities to engineering students. Critical role in supporting day to day communications and functioning of Engineering Career Connections and proposing recommendations for program improvements. This position requires a collaborative, team-oriented, diplomatic, and proactive individual capable of working with a great deal of autonomy through sharing of knowledge and skills and contributing ideas and recommendations.The purpose of this team-oriented position is to work collaboratively to provide exceptional engineering specific career education and resources, arrange and support a variety of recruitment, networking, and professional development events and initiatives, coordinate weekly communications to engineering students and alumni, and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, Faculty, student clubs/groups, and external stakeholders for the purposes of meeting ECC’s operational goals. Actively contributes to creating an environment that facilitates and supports engineering students on their career journey.Reporting to the Engineering Career Connections Manager, the primary role of the Career Connections Program Specialist is to support and work directly with the Manager to identify, plan and execute career exploration and networking events, ensure quality, tailored career workshops, and contribute to effective communications, that support the objectives, work and impacts of Engineering Career Connections (ECC). The secondary role is to maintain and update Engineering Career Connections website content and contribute to grow engineering student awareness of and engagement with the ECC’s programming and resources.The position handles the coordination of Engineering Career Connections communications channels such as the Career Connections newsletter, ECC website, Resource Vault and social media, and liaises with the faculty’s Communications Partner and other UAlberta communications offices to leverage institutional channels such as Folio and the Quad.DutiesEngineering Student Career Education and Event Planning (45%)
- Initiates, plans, organizes and hosts events that align with identified target sectors and that educate engineering students on career path possibilities, and other initiatives that prepare them to successfully transition from classroom to career. Events could include, but are not limited to: industry nights, rapid resume reviews, mock interview sessions, panel / Q & A sessions, and general networking events.
- Handles logistics for events, including scheduling, registration, room setup, AV equipment, catering, volunteer coordination, etc. to ensure successful execution.
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to deliver career events, workshops and resources that align with applicable strategic plans.
Communications/Document/Materials Development (40%)
- Conducts both primary and secondary research and creates career and job search content for handouts, Resource Vault, and social media for engineering students that aligns with objectives defined by Manager.
- Co-develops, designs, and produces ECC Resource Vault materials and publications on program(s) (Discipline pages) in accordance with established Engineering Career Connections / Faculty / College / University policies/procedures.
- Contributes to the creation of presentations on career planning, job search best practices, resumes, cover letters, interviews, networking, etc.
Program Administration & Operations (15%)
- Utilizes campusBRIDGE to access engineering summer, new grad, alumni job postings and non co-op experiential opportunities to be promoted and included in weekly Career Connections newsletter and printed for the physical bulletin board.
- Moderates career and professional development webinars offered by ECC including welcome, managing chat and any technical issues, and moderating the Q&A portion.
- Utilizes Project Management Software (ClickUp) to manage workflows and calendar.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of a diploma in a field related to Arts, Business Administration, Event Planning, Communications or Website/digital content management; Undergraduate degree in Business, Education or related program is strongly preferred.
- Prior experience in planning and executing events for 20 – 300+ attendees.
- Demonstrated minimum 2 years of experience utilizing effective communication skills to establish collaborations, market events, and create project documentation and reports.
- Effective research skills; ability to source, compile, analyze and summarize findings in order to create career resources that align with best practices.
- Excellent communicator who possesses strong editing and proofreading skills.
- Keen attention to detail.
- Experience with print, electronic and web design platforms including content management systems.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace, including Sites.
- Demonstrated knowledge and use of social media tools such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
- Ability to work independently on a wide variety of tasks with competing priorities. Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and time effectively.
- Effective problem-solving, planning and analytical skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of and/or experience with career planning and job search best practices and resources development.
- Experience with web-based tools such as: Cascade, Groupize, Zoom, Canva, Canvas, Campaign Monitor.
- Experience with project management software such as ClickUp.
- Experience using video editing tools and YouTube.
- Experience using Adobe products.
- Familiarity with the engineering profession and Faculty of Engineering.
- Knowledge of University of Alberta policies and procedures.
