Your Opportunity:The Supervisor – Emergency Medical Services for Edmonton Zone performs a leadership role in EMS and reports directly to the Manager, EMS Operations. The position is responsible and accountable for providing the direction, team leadership and organization over the activities of the zone area in support of the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services. The position is responsible and accountable for making front-line operational decisions and having direct leadership responsibility for contributing to the achievement of the goals of Emergency Medical Services. The Supervisor, EMS Operations will develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders including other health professionals, first responders, fire rescue, and police agencies. The Supervisor oversees multiple frontline healthcare providers providing emergency healthcare. The majority of the providers are Paramedics providing frontline care. This position works shift work throughout the Edmonton Zone. This posting will be used to fill up to five positions. This position requires the ability to lift and move patients and equipment as required for clinical support.Description:The Supervisor – Emergency Medical Services is responsible for daily operational field management of pre-hospital care, patient transport services and special operations. Planning, allocating and managing physical, human and fiscal resources and assesses resource requirements to meet the greatest needs in service delivery. Promoting innovative practice and quality improvement to enhance service provision consistent with regional and provincial objectives. Safety performance of the staff and the development and implementation of mitigation strategies relative to the prevention or management of lost time events, including creation of modified return to work programs. Communication to staff related to corporate, departmental and branch operations, ensuring staff have the information to safely and effectively perform required tasks. Performance management/evaluation, ensuring performance is consistent with established standards, medical protocols, policies and procedures to ensure quality patient care and services delivery.

Required Qualifications:Graduate of an Alberta College of Paramedics approved program and current registration in good standing with the Alberta College of Paramedics. Minimum of five (5) years providing care or leadership in Emergency Medical Services. Experience working in EMS in a leadership role, ideally in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. Proven experience and professional development in a leadership role. Valid Alberta Class 4 Operators License with no more than 6 demerits.

Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organizational goals within an organization and ideally within a unionized environment. Strong track record in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Effective leadership abilities combined with a strong commitment to operating within a team environment and the ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve common goals. Excellent analytical and decision-making skills. Ability to foster a climate of cooperation amongst, and build solid relationships with the public agencies, government, committees and other partners. Demonstrated ability in conflict and crisis management.
