Job Description:Job Purpose or Objective(s): Support the educational needs of the Choctaw Cultural Center through research and content creation that preserves and perpetuates the history and culture of the Choctaw Nation.Internships are only open to Choctaw Nation tribal members currently enrolled in college.Our Summer Intern Program is an 8-week temporary, paid program that runs from June 3, 2024 to July 27, 2024. This position pays $15 per hour.Primary Tasks:

  • You will deliver a variety of educational activities and programs across the Choctaw Cultural Center, including tours for a variety of audiences, demonstrations, exhibition-related programs, and public programs.
  • Instruct and help develop curriculum and programs that educate through experiences such as cultural dancing, stickball, exhibits, and Living Village presentations plus skills in the fields of archeology, visual arts/fine arts, teaching, museum, art/culture, history, horticulture, cultural organizations, and volunteer work.
  • Prepare to meet the Cultural Center’s programing needs related to educational classes being offered through study, additional research, overall preparation, and the meeting of instruction-based learning goals.
  • Monitor and offer feedback on classes and programs for academic and cultural improvements. Gather survey instruments.
  • You will support and help coordinate Choctaw Cultural Center events such as National Native American Heritage Month and Art Marketplace.
  • Provide age-appropriate instruction and activities for all programs and guests.
  • Have and demonstrate public speaking experience assisting all programming and educational events.
  • Perform other responsibilities as may be assigned.

Required Education, Skills and Experience:MINIMUM

  • Choctaw CDIB cardholder or Choctaw Tribal Member
  • Currently attending an accredited college, university or post-secondary educational institution.
  • High level of organization and detail orientation skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to research topics assigned using computers and museum collections assets
  • Basic office and computer skills
  • Graphic design, curriculum design, and/or InDesign experience a plus.
  • Live in the boundary (10 ½ county) of Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma

Expected salary

$15 per hour
