Job description

We seek a Communications and Policy officer as part of Friends of Al-Aqsa’s ongoing commitment to securing justice for the Palestinians.Job Description:Job PurposeTo head FOA communications and assist with policy making. To create press releases, briefing papers, blogs, features, reports, information leaflets, and digital content. To edit and proofread other relevant literature. Organize public events and academic conferences. To draft internal policy documents and assist in formulating policies.Job DutiesCommunications:

  • Produce written material and social media content to support the FOA’s work.
  • To edit and proofread literature published by FOA or for internal purposes.
  • Engage Policymakers by creating and distributing policy-related news and digital content (e.g., blogs, thought pieces, videos).
  • Identify and facilitate promotional opportunities (including expert speaker opportunities promoting FOA objectives).
  • Identify current and emerging political trends and issues in which FOA should participate.
  • Proactively seek opportunities to engage with and build relationships with policy partners, communication channels, opinion leaders, and influencers.
  • Author, contribute, edit and commission items as required to support a range of publications.
  • Be part of a team supporting and managing the social media account(s).
  • Work to set up and manage Policy events and briefings as required.
  • Execute a dynamic communications programme for FOA, building and maintaining online channels, including websites, social media platforms, newsletters, and publications.
  • Support the production and implementation of an organizational communications strategy, including dissemination targets, audience identification, social media use, and compelling content development.

Policy:

  • Write and provide briefs on counter-narratives.
  • Prepare internal positional papers.
  • Work with colleagues across the FOA Team to identify and maximize communication opportunities with policy-focused stakeholders.
  • Work with FOA Team colleagues to support and promote the policies.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external organizations and groups.
  • Work directly with policymakers.

Knowledge

  • Have first-class research and writing skills and experience in creating high-impact, practical text and digital content.
  • Very well-versed on the Palestine-Israel issue.
  • A sound understanding of UK Institution structures, policies and decision-making processes.
  • Adhere to all internal and external policies and procedures and contribute to their ongoing development as required.
  • Occasional work outside regular working hours.
  • Ability to travel, predominantly across England.
  • Sound knowledge of Social Media apps.
  • Have a strong commitment to FOA objectives.
