This role can be based in Calgary, Vancouver or Elk Valley.Reporting directly to the Director of Total Rewards, the Manager of Pensions and Benefits assumes responsibility for overseeing the administration of various pension plans, including Defined Benefits and Defined Contribution schemes, as well as managing employee and retiree benefit plans. In addition to the base salary, there is also potential for 2 annual bonuses associated with this role.Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate unwavering commitment to safety leadership, ensuring adherence to safety and environmental protocols.
- Ensure compliance of pension and benefit plans, contracts, and policies with legislative and negotiated amendments.
- Manage external and internal audit requests related to pension plan audits.
- Collaborate with senior HR and site representatives on pension matters, collective bargaining strategies, and legislative changes.
- Serve as a resource for the HR team, resolving escalated issues and disputes.
- Supervise the administration of pension plans, addressing complex transactions and inquiries.
- Stay abreast of market trends, technological advancements, and product innovations to inform strategic decisions.
- Uphold operational excellence through meticulous process documentation, controls, and vendor management.
- Partner with HR Information Systems to address system-related issues and enhancements.
- Engage with service providers to address process-related challenges.
- Ensure regulatory compliance for Registered Plans and manage relationships with service providers.
- Develop and implement policies pertinent to applicable programs.
- Chair joint pension committee meetings in accordance with Collective Bargaining Agreements.
- Prepare annual project plans and operating budgets, monitoring expenditures against budgetary allocations.
- Execute communication strategies pertaining to benefits, pension plans, and policies.
- Ensure adherence to laws and regulations governing benefit plans and policies.
- Lead a team of pension and benefits professionals, fostering a culture of service excellence.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of ten years of progressive senior-level experience in relevant roles.
- Actuarial experience is required.
- Preferred qualifications include a degree in Actuarial Science or Mathematics.
- Proficiency in MS Office suite and strong computer literacy.
