Position: Senior Accountant – Mortgage Trust and Corporate Finance

The Senior Accountant – Mortgage Trust and Corporate Finance is responsible for trust accounting of several of the mortgage fund’s trust accounts as well as for Corporate full-cycle accounting. The challenge will be to operate in a professional and pressurized environment to meet the reporting demands amidst daily trust activity and ever evolving industry. This role requires strong focus, organization, and attention to detail as trust reporting has an extremely low error tolerance. The successful candidate will have the motivation and ability to thrive in a challenging and constantly changing environment.
Role:
– Daily trust bank reconciliation – monitor bank activities and enter complex multi-faceted trust transactions into mortgage administration system.
– Communicate and work flexibly with other departments (mortgage admin, other members of the finance team, treasury, etc.) to solve issues and track unresolved items when necessary.
– Manage daily investor trust payments. Execute wires and ACH credits out of trust accounts.
– Prepare monthly financial statements and financial analysis reports for management.
– Maintain monthly accounting schedules and enter journal entries into accounting system (standard and complex bookkeeping entries including deferred revenue, payroll, amortization, prepaid expenses etc.).
– Establish controls, enhance procedures to ensure the production of all financial reporting is accurate, complete, and delivered on a timely basis.
– Provide senior management with analysis and breakdowns of financial activity from time to time.
– Act as main contact for audit of primary corporate entity (upload supporting documentation, answer auditor questions, etc.).
– Prepare regulatory and compliance filings including OSC excess working capital, Stats Canada survey, etc.
– Act as back-up for the functions of other members of the finance team (includes AP and banking functions).
– Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
– 3 to 5 years of progressive accounting experience
– Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration preferred
– Proficient in excel (ability to create and maintain efficient and clearly formatted worksheets)
– Exposure to mortgage investment fund trust accounting preferred
– Ability and willingness to learn continuously
– Strong communication and problem-solving skills
– Ability to think analytically and conduct independent investigations
– Results oriented and the ability to work under tight deadlines and manage competing priorities
