The Manager, Environmental Management (EM) is accountable to the Director, Corporate Environmental Protection for the effective implementation of Environmental Protection at the WL site. The EM Manager is responsible for the day-to-day and long-term operations of the Environmental Management Branch, which includes Environmental Protection (EnvP), the Sample Management Office (SMO) and conducting/managing on-site and off- site analytical services in support of decommissioning the WL Site. The Manager is responsible for the efficient operation of the Environmental portion of both Compliance and Project work at the WL Site. The Manager, Environmental Management is also responsible, as part of the WL Management Team, for successful implementation of project activities specifically as they relate to environmental mitigations and monitoring. If you answered yes, then this may be the job for you!What will you be doing?· Ensuring that the management system is effective and implemented at the site, and as a manager, committed to and meets responsibility for reviewing and ensuring the success of the management system and safety management, including the ongoing proactive oversight and surveillance of nuclear safety activities and compliance with regulatory requirements.· Rolling out and periodically reviewing roles and responsibilities and accountability and authority (R2A2) matrices with staff members and directly mentor new hires on awareness and understanding of the CNL Management System.· Promoting safe practices, good housekeeping and a culture which minimizes and/or eliminates safety incidents.· Leading staff professionals and supervising field exploration, sampling, inspection, analysis, and technical support.· Developing strategic plans in collaboration with the customer base, to ensure improved efficiency and dependability of services provided by the EM Branch.· Maintaining a skilled, effective, and motivated workforce through recruiting, training, and supervision of professional, technical and contract staff that meets and anticipates customer requirements.· Generating job position descriptions, training plans, and administering performance assessments.· Managing the EM budget, ensuring adherence to project budgets, schedules, and QA requirements.· Evaluating, recommending, and justifying non-routine expenditures and resource adjustments as required.· Preparing regular progress reports on activities and operations, and providing updates to the Director, Corporate Environmental Protection for business plans.· Preparing (or reviewing) and approval of technical reports, and other documentation, issued to both internal and external customers and/or regulators.· Ensuring that field and lab activities within the scope of the branch are conducted in accordance with the Quality Assurance plan.· Ensuring that the Branch can advise and provide workable solutions to environmental related issues that may arise on-site.· Utilizing third party contract resources to augment branch resources as appropriate.· Acting as designate for the Director, Corporate Environmental Protection.· Overseeing Sample Management activities at WL.· Employing Environmental expertise at Chalk River Laboratories when required.· Participating and maintaining up to date, all safety and operational training offered through the company.· Assuming personal responsibility and is accountable for maintaining current skills by attending all training required by the site, viewing assigned videos, reading articles and participating in seminars as required.· Sharing learned knowledge and skills with peers.· Identifying and reporting any real or potential safety hazards; wearing all safety equipment related to your position as well as participating in all safety-training offered.· Adhering to Workplace Safety and health procedures, WHIMIS program; keeping current with practices; working in a prudent and safe manner and informing other employees if they are using unsafe work practices or equipment.· Maintaining confidentiality in all matters.· Performing other duties as assigned.What we are looking for:Someone who has the ability to:· Must be versed in applicable federal, provincial, and municipal regulations, and help maintain continuous compliance with all WL Site Programs.· Skills required include, but are not limited to: fair treatment, planning, coaching, mentoring, training, performance assessment and conflict resolution.· Knowledge of CNL’s management, human resources, and financial systems.· Strong planning, technical and administration skills to support day-to-day operations and regulatory reporting.· Good computer skills with a proficiency with MS Office software tools, particularly Word and Excel.· Familiar with the requirements of an Environmental Management System (e.g. ISO 14001) and ability to become familiar with CNL’s Radiation Protection Program as it relates to environmental management.· Experience in change management to effectively support the drive/improvement of Environmental related processes and procedures.· Punctual, dependable and safety minded.· Detail oriented with the ability to meet deadlines.· Exceptional organizational skills, able to prioritize and time management is required.· Demonstrates responsibility and is accountable for accurately handling the details associated with one’s work.· Conscientious about accuracy.· Ability to adapt to a changing environment and response with initiative.· Excellent interpersonal communication skills and proven ability to maintain successful working relations at all levels within the organization and with external stakeholders; and· Highly motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.· Able to work extended hours and off normal work shifts to support project needs.· Able to interface between Compliance work and Project work to keep both disciplines moving forward.· Able to oversee an Analytical/Environmental laboratory environment.· Able to interface with Environmental personnel at other CNL sites.Experience· Minimum of seven (7) years’ professional practical experience delivering environmental services and an additional three (3) years’ experience in a leadership role of an Environmental Project or Program. Site closure experience is an asset.· Experience working with, and coordinating project efforts, with multi-faceted teams on site-based projects.· Experience includes coordinating and executing field assessment for remediation and reclamation projects.· Experience includes developing and implementing work plans and soil sampling programs.· Experience in change management to effectively support the drive/improvement of environmental related processes and procedures.· Experience leading environmental assessments and/or environmental assessment corrective actions is an asset.· Experience in both Compliance and Project related work and interfacing between the two.· Experience in overseeing a sample management group.· Experience in overseeing an Analytical/Environmental laboratory environment and field crew.Education· University degree in Environmental Studies or related scientific disciplines (including Physics and Chemistry) is required, in order to understand, interpret and convey the causes and environmental consequences of human activities.Security Eligibility Requirement· Level 2 Secret Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of seven (7) years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”Working Conditions:· The Manager, EM must be dedicated to maintaining CNL’s regulatory compliance and good corporate image. A cooperative attitude is very helpful. The Manager must feel comfortable dealing with regulators, as well as all levels and disciplines in the Company. Extent of duties may require extra hours and some travel. Frequently called on to provide information, make presentations on short notice, both to internal and external groups.· Primarily in an office environment with frequent field visits to observe / participate in activities.
