We respect the power of the Indigenous ways of knowing and of Traditional Indigenous Knowledge and commit to learning about and incorporating this knowledge into our work with proper guidance.Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Senior Finance Analyst (SFA) ensures the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions. They are responsible for the accurate and timely preparation, analysis and review of financial data used in reports provided to the Director, Finance that are directed towards senior management and external parties. As well, the SFA will assist with ad-hoc financial reporting and analysis.Responsibilities and AccountabilitiesFinancial Management
- Monitors and maintains day-to-day cash management
- Prepares, reviews and continually monitors vendor contracts.
- Ongoing identification and contribution to financial process improvements within the finance division and the organization.
Accounting and Financial Reporting
- Responsible for coordinating the month end and quarter end close;
- Administer the Deferred Revenue monthly and quarterly: update and maintain deferred revenue details and reports. Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations for revenue, accrued revenue and deferred revenue
- Reviews all payroll journal entries and payroll cost allocation entries
- Accounts Payable entry review and posting
- Balancing financial reporting to the Trial Balance
- Set up new projects: create project structure, code project budget, create chart of accounts, set up new projects, make transfers of employee billable hours and/or expenses, and create reports as per agreement and donors requirements, train project team.
- Prepares and analyze month-end reports for distribution to Directors and Project Coordinators
- Prepares client requested report for other externally funded projects
- Responsible for compilation of audit working files
- Maintains General Ledger Accounts and Activities
- Maintains the filing system of accounting records
- Accounting functions and overall financial maintenance for Canadian Executive Council on Addictions (CECA).
Accounts Receivable
- Responsible for client invoicing.
- Daily deposits and entry preparation.
- A/R collections and follow up.
Payroll/Benefits
- Payroll data entry review and posting.
- Back-up to Payroll Benefits Coordinator, including but not limited to scheduled absences.
This position profile is designed to provide an overview of the main responsibilities for the role. Other responsibilities not identified in this position profile may be assigned based on the person’s experience and operational requirements.Qualifications
- Three-year Community College graduate in Accounting or Business Administration.
- Currently enrolled in a CPA PREP or PEP program at the Advanced Level or higher.
- Excellent understanding of accounting principles and practices (GAAP).
- Minimum 8 years experience in an accounting environment with multiple revenue sources with an in-depth knowledge of financial and business reporting systems.
- Experience in variance analysis in a project-based financial statement environment.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, with experience in data mining.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask.
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- A dependable team player who is both detail and deadline oriented.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills in English
- Well-developed analytical and reasoning skills.
Assets
- Experience working in non-governmental or non-profit organizations
- Bilingualism in English and French
- Advanced skills in MS Dynamics Business Central.
- Good knowledge and understanding of contracts and standard clauses.
