About the Organization and PositionPrestigious collective in higher education is hiring a Director of Policy for their leadership team. The member universities in this organization are world leaders in research, teaching and innovation.The Director of Policy is a key leadership role, responsible for the development and delivery of policy and research in support of our strategic plan. Our policy work is influential in shaping developments across several areas, including funding, regulation, immigration and efforts to attract international students and staff. We produce evidence-based recommendations for policymakers and our members. This is a critical position, where knowledge of the policy environment is essential, as well as being able to motivate and manage a talented and creative team. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, the Director will work closely with organization’s President and Board and offer support and counsel to members and their teams.Candidates will be strongly motivated by our mission and vision and will bring a successful track record of leading policy development, analysis and influencing in a comparably complex context.   • Help develop and implement legislative strategy.
  • Advise the leadership team on overall policy and advocacy strategy
  • Strategize with the leadership team and policy/advocacy staff, and facilitate internal discussions
  • Liaise with other teams, projects, and departments across the organization in moving our advocacy strategy forward.
  • Assign, review, and provide feedback on work to Senior Program Associates, Program Associates, Analysts, and Interns.
  • Collaborate with research team to efficiently integrate the team’s data and research
  • Meet regularly with staff to review work and support professional development.
  • Lead regular policy/advocacy team meetings, strategy sessions, and debriefs to help the team work together seamlessly and effectively.
  • Writing, editing, and supervising team members’ drafting of various written deliverables, from longer reports to briefing memos and external messaging.
  • Edit team members’ writing, both on the policy/advocacy and research side

Experience

  • University degree in public policy, social work, political science or related field; or equivalent work experience; or relevant work or educational background
  • Deep understanding of the higher education in the UK
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a project, including assigned staff, from start to finish
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both externally and internally with team members.
  • Excellent writing skills across diverse media and audiences.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and an ability to articulate a compelling concept and vision to government and community partners and others.
