The Department of Surgery at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is hiring an Incremental medical weight management physician to join our Academic Faculty. This position will be mainly clinical with the expectation to participate in multidisciplinary meetings/conferences, collaborate with nurse practitioners and physician assistants, mentor obesity medicine fellows, teach medical trainees including students, residents, and fellows, and assist with clinical trials as a study clinician or site principal investigator.About Us:Weight Management Center (WMC)The WMC provides adult patients with a range of comprehensive weight management treatment options from medical to surgical interventions. The WMC uses a multidisciplinary team approach to provide comprehensive treatment of obesity. The WMC includes over 25 obesity medicine specialists, bariatric surgeons, dietitians, certified fitness trainers and exercise physiologists, and behavioral health professionals all trained in obesity management. The WMC specializes in high risk and complicated obesity, where patients with multiple related co-morbidities can find options to help with improving health and achieving long-term weight loss; however, the WMC is designed to help anyone interested in modifying risk factors by adopting healthy lifestyle behaviors. The WMC has three locations in the Piedmont Triad metropolitan area (Winston-Salem, High Point, and Greensboro, NC). Each location is a multipurpose clinic with over 5,000 square feet of dedicated space for treatment of patients, which includes 9 exam rooms, exercise training space, clinician workspace, and offices.The Center offers a medical weight management program, led by Dr. Jamy Ard, which includes several tailored programs that help patients treat the chronic disease of obesity and improve health through comprehensive lifestyle interventions and anti-obesity medication. All treatment strategies are designed to be used in conjunction with anti-obesity medication as indicated by the medical provider in consultation with the patient. The medical weight management program works in tandem with the bariatric and metabolic surgery program to care for some shared patients; however, the medical program primarily follows and treats all patients who are not pursuing surgical treatment. The WMC offers full-service obesity treatment that prioritizes patients’ experience and convenience. The WMC offers:

  • An on-site Nutrition Shop at all locations
  • Exercise physiologists, psychologists, counselors and dietitians on-staff who specialize in working with weight loss clients
  • An on-site gym with the latest strength and cardio equipment that is available by appointment only, for a more personalized, private workout experience
  • A robust remote monitoring and engagement platform that enables completely virtual treatment options for patients in all parts of North Carolina and some surrounding states

The bariatric and metabolic surgery program is led by Dr. Adolfo Fernandez and recognized as an accredited Comprehensive Center with Obesity Medicine Qualifications by the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. The Center also holds the Blue Distinction Center+ Bariatric Surgery designation, the Optum Bariatric Center of Excellence designation, and the Aetna Institutes of Quality for Bariatric Surgery designation. These prestigious designations recognize superior and affordable care from the highest quality providers.
